No.
As a child of the 80's, I adore Spielberg, and West Side Story is literally my favorite musical...but...no.

This sounds like a no-win situation. People will go in and immediately compare it to the original and I doubt it will produce any new fans. Also, The Post looks like it might be banking off the success of Spotlight. You could say the same about this and LaLa Land.

The problem with Speilberg, Lucas, and even Cameron is they all became multibillionaries... So the movies they make in the last 10 years isn't up to the caliber of their 80's and 90's counterparts... They have zero risks and even if the movie they make fails, doesn't mean there careers will.
They've become bored...

Let’s not put them in the same boat at Spielberg. The man’s a work horse. Problem is, Spielberg just got full of himself. He wants to be a prestige filmmaker when that’s not where his talents lie.

It'll be interesting to see how Ready Player One turns out, in that case.

I think his real problem is that he just got old and lost his touch with the youths of today. When he does try to make movies for family audiences it ends up either being forgettably like Tintin, treacly bullshit like War Horse or... whatever the hell The BFG was supposed to be. Clearly he's better at making the prestige dramas at this point and he should probably stick to them because he hasn't really succeeded at the big budget thing since... War of the Worlds?

Well, at least it's not Tarantino's West Side Story.
Or Michael Bay's West Side Story
Or Uwe Bol's West Side Story

I'd actually love to see a Tarantino West Side Story. With Mr Pink singing "I Feel Pretty" Buscemi would probably do that lol

No wonder Kevin Spacey took a shine to him in Baby Driver.

I demand they recast him with Christopher Plummer Normally I would but I want Doomsday & SnoBorderZero to succeed at the box office. So only if they push it to next year or dump on Netflix or something.

And have him write a James Cameron diary.
