If Doomsday has any respect for me, it’s about to evaporate. Here we go. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is awesome. Have I replaced PhantomKnight? Two losers, a jock and a popular girl end up in detention. Instead of talking to each other and learning to understand and accept each other, like movies of the past used to do, they get transported into a video game and go on adventure that’ll teach them a lesson or two. YES. The premise is dumb. There’s no defending it. But under the guide of Jake Kasdan (Freaks & Geeks) it can at least be entertaining. The Rock, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillian and Jack Black are fun to watch and play their roles well. Nick Jonas is also there, in a role similar to the one Robin Williams played in the original, if you can believe that. He’s a kid who’s been stuck in the game for 20 years and with the help of these misfits can finally escape. Bring tissue paper. You’ll shed a tear at the end. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is great family entertainment for the holidays. Skip those Christmas leftovers and have fun at the movies.

What a blast. Best video game movie ever. Used it in a very predictable but effective way that just really lends itself well to an action movie. So easy to just have Deus ex machina's but also have them make sense in the context of the world built in the story. Brilliant.
Preditably the last quarter or so kinda bogs down but it remains fun throughout the world of jumanji. The slightest and s.allest mention of the previous one, but enough to satisfy theater audiences.
This movie was everything it said it would be, delivered for me fully.
7/10, not as fun as Thor but I think this will hold up somewhat better over repeat viewings just because it is so self contained.

I enjoyed this and was thoroughly entertained. Now, there is something to be said about this Jumanji. This Jumanji made the avatar issue its main focal point - each character was given an avatar that challenged their identities and how they looked at themselves, and that was what took center stage throughout. It was done in an entertaining way, and I liked the story, but it could easily have backfired with audiences who wanted more Jumanji/jungle action.
On paper, this seemed like something Max Landis cooked up: "Hey, so remember that awesome Jumanji movie? Imagine taking the world of Jumanji and, instead of focusing on the game aspects, make this movie more about how each character is a very extreme trope before going into the game, and then focus on their experience both in the confines of the game as well their introspective reasoning when they are each assigned an extreme trope avatar opposite to their reality. It will be like Jumanji meets The Hot Chick!"
If you go in wanting a movie that truly focuses on the game's riddles, mechanics, and jungle antics, you might be disappointed, because I felt like the film rushed from one setting to the next, but didn't really spend much time with each element or danger to really build up a decent level of suspense. With the original film, the setup to each dice roll was very tense, I missed that here. However, there is still a story here to like, and the actors chosen were all excellent choices, easily carrying this movie from beginning to start.
7/10

The fact that this is still only on page 1 is a fucking crime.
I've seen this three times since my original review.

The Rock gets paid a million dollars to plug movies on social media. How much did Doomsday get paid for Geostorm?
