The good news is "It" is gonna be amazing. This Bill Skarsgard guy pulled a Heath Ledger. The bad news is I had to sit through Annabelle: Creation. The Conjuring movies are good schlock. Annabelle is just fucking stupid. Literally, every fucking character is a moron. I can let dumb characters slide in slasher films because the payoff is gore and maybe a few laughs. In these jump-scare movies it's just fucking irritating. The year is 1940-something or 1950-something. Who the fuck knows. A doll makers' daughter is run over by a car so he prays for her return. In actuality, he gets a demon impersonating his daughter. She asks to inhabit one of his dolls, and when he allows it, all hell breaks loose. He seeks the help of the church and they contain the evil in his daughter's room. 12 years pass and he turns his home into an orphanage for teenage girls. Why? He let's them roam freely except they can't disturb his daughter's room. Guess what happens. What follows is a series of comical jump-scares that lead into the opening scene of The Conjuring. Hoax or not, aren't these Conjuring movies based on true stories? Is this also a true story or did they make up some bullshit and tied it up with real events? Who knows. Who fucking cares. Save your money for "It". Except you Dracula . You must be sacrificed for the Golden Stake Awards.

Meanwhile, on Rotten Tomatoes... Score: 81% "Critics Consensus: Annabelle: Creation adds another strong chapter to the Conjuring franchise - and offers further proof that freaky-looking dolls remain reliably terrifying."

I peered into the vastness and saw nothing. Felt nothing.

I think RT may have been premature in adding a consensus just yet. It had 100% for quite awhile from some 20 odd early reviews. It wasn't until yesterday that some others started to show up and they've been bringing it down. We'll see come tomorrow and Friday.

As far as the "Conjuring" trifecta goes, this was a solid entry, but would rank as #3 on my list. It was nice to see Anthony LaPaglia back in action as the adoptive parent. The scares, setting, and level of filmmaking were on par with the rest of the films, but the story lost a little bit of steam at the end. I would have liked to see it fleshed out a little bit more, otherwise there were some genuinely terror-filled moments that should please horror fans, and this was top-notch as far as horror films go.
7/10 - solid movie.
I did not realize there was an Annabelle movie, so I guess this isn't part of a trifecta, but that this universe now encompasses 4 films.
