Beats the Fappening.
Tim Roth was, indeed, awesome.

The thing that always bugs me about these movies is that the main characters never question why the apes all speak English. It's more easily forgiven with the original film, because that's just how things were done back then. I found it absurd in the Tim Burton version. If you find yourself stranded on what appears to be an alien planet full of beings who speak English, you've got to make some logical deductions. Admittedly, Marky Mark is not someone I'd expect to figure it out, but you'd think he would ask the bloody question at some point. All he does is get hung up on why the apes speak, not that they speak English.

How does Thor talk to Natalie Portman? How does General Zod speak English? Why does everyone in Star Trek except Klingons speak English? How does any time travel story ignore the fact that our modern language would sound as foreign as Shakespeare's English to someone from the future?

Thor can speak to Natalie Portman because magic/technomagic. I can't be bothered to worry about General Zod, because there's not a whole hell of a lot in Superman II or Man of Steel that makes the slightest bit of sense. Language is the least of those movies problems. Star Trek has the universal translator, which is why the Klingons usually do speak English. We generally only hear proper Klingon for dramatic effect.

Man of Steel eludes to Kryptonians visiting Earth thousands of years ago does it not? It's possible they had an influence on the development of human culture and language. That doesn't totally explain how both languages would evolve in largely similar ways (nor does it account for other languages), but hey, it's something.

When the Kryptonians first appear above Earth in Man of Steel, they're transmitting their demand for Kal' El in every language. It's only later in person that they all speak English. I suppose they've got a universal translator as well, although why an isolationist culture would bother to do so eludes me. As a said, the film has loads of problems.
