What can I say this movie was just so bland. It had decent scenes. But a mummy is not a scary monster. It had moments but none worth the Ticket price.
Me personally I like seeing those clips from An American Werewolf in London, I began to wonder if Universal should have just done a comedic cinematic universe with all their monsters. Could have been pretty unique, I think.

While I wouldn't say that The Mummy is Tom Cruise's Jump The Shark movie, it's pretty close. There definitely some unintentionally funny moments that were directly related to the fact that this is a Tom Cruise flick. The amount of CGI used during his scene in which he wakes up naked in a morgue to make Tom look young was staggering. If this keeps up, Cruise is going to have to start doing movies with tracking dots all over his face.
After having watched The Mummy, I can see that at one point, the script may have had a chance. With the right casting, a director looking to make a horror/action movie, and a limited rewrite, this could have been a good film. Ultimately however, it failed due to trying to be too many things. The Mummy opens as a heist film, then horror, horror comedy (that's not particularly funny), action/horror, until finally settling on a Tom Cruise Action Vehicle mode.
Sofia Boutella was great, and the FX team did a fantastic job bringing her version of the villain to life. Everyone responsible for her look is to be commended. It's a shame she wasn't a bigger part of the film.

I didn't hate it.
I'll check out the rest of the universe.
