Consolation prize for PG Cooper : Phantom Thread won the jet ski. The #10 movie at CS! won Best Picture Bravo Some other ways to look at it: - Your second favorite movie of the year won Best Picture. - My second choice among this year's nominees won Best Picture. Still sounds like a victory to me both ways.

Consolation prize for PG Cooper: Phantom Thread won the jet ski. At that moment I said to myself, "Phantomknight will make note of this". Also, it did genuinely make me happy.

The Shape of Water wins Best Picture Doomsday rage at volcanic level Run. Weakest Best Picture winner since Crash. Yes, I’ve seen The Artist and King’s Speech. Yeah I said it, come at me bro! Doomsday, you fucking crackhead*, you seriously gonna tell me The Karate Kid but he's a King and has a speech impediment is better than The Shape of Water? Shit, the musical number is more creatove than anything in Tom Hooper's bland middlebrow fluff. * I use this phrase in the most endearing way possible

Clearly, Doomsday's new kid has made him very sleep-deprived and thus not able to think straight.

I haven't kept up with Best Picture Winners for a while, though I loved the fuck out of Shape of Water.
I am also quite fond of The Artist and Birdman. Argo was quite good too. Haven't seen 12 Years, Moonlight, or Spotlight.

Spotlight and Moonlight were pretty boring films though.
I have to say "Shape of Water" was not a movie boring film by any means, in fact it keeps you pretty glued to the overall story.

Good to see Colin Hanks is totally woke. Hollywood will keep feeding him jobs as a result.
Pretty boring show overall last night. Missed the monologue, so I can't comment on that, but most of Kimmel's jokes were lame. And I never got into Shape of Water, so it winning is kind of 'meh' for me. But whatever, I still like Del Toro. So good for him.

Ratings tank again, down over 15% from last year which were already the lowest in almost a decade.

Dracula PG Cooper PhantomKnightRatings tank again, down over 15% from last year which were already the lowest in almost a decade. We’ve discussed this before, but it’s worth repeating, the Oscars no longer reward the best movies. This isn’t a matter of objectivity. Harvey Weinstein may have raped a lot of women but he also tarnished the Academy Awards by turning it into a big commercial for small movies. Remember when big movies won Oscars? Dances With Wolves. Forest Gump. Braveheart. Titanic. Even if these weren’t actually the best movies of the year, it got people invested and they tuned in. No one gives a shit about Moonlight, Spotlight and The King’s Speech. Why would anyone waste 4 hours watching an awards show filled with nominees they have no intention of watching?
