Carol almost certainly would have taken slot 9. Thank God it didn't.

Calm down, everyone, calm down. The Oscars got this. They'll have Chris Rock host next year. Solved. They'll hire Conan O' Brien They'd better. They need to appease the redhead community.

I just got back from Brooklyn. Out of the six nominees I've seen now, I would definitely swap out Bridge of Spies and Brooklyn with The Hateful Eight and Sicario. Creed is a very good movie, but I wouldn't have given it a Best Picture nomination. And Ex Machina just arrived from Netflix today, I'll see what I think about that one soon enough.
I still need to see The Big Short and Room.

No surprise here. Will Smith is also boycotting the Oscars. And if it makes SnoBorderZero feel better, George Clooney criticized the Oscars as well.

Oh boo hoo, Will Smith doesn't get a nomination for a mediocre movie nobody cares about so now he's boycotting the award. I'm a huge sports fan and I had no interest whatsoever in Concussion. They can boycott all they want, no one cares. I'm sorry but we have to draw the line at some point. I agree that we need these awards to be diverse, but not at the cost of nominating lesser movies in order to do so. Straight Outta Compton and Dope should've been nominated over any of these selections? No, no they shouldn't. We should nominate the BEST movies of the year, no matter if it's an action movie, horror movie, romantic comedy, cartoon, whatever. Throwing pity parties for lesser movies doesn't help the Oscars. The Oscars already gave in to bullshit like this when they made Crash the Best Picture winner in 2005, which was a joke because that movie is shit. Like Spike Lee, maybe Will Smith should focus on making better movies to get his award instead of playing the racist card because he didn't get his way. They're pathetic.

Hahaha! He probably thought that since he was using an accent for a movie it was a lock to be nominated. And anyone using the "Well he was nominated for a Golden Globe!" defense is kidding themselves. The Golden Globes are as irrelevant as Concussion is.

Haha right. I don't see anyone boycotting an awards show that literally excludes anyone that's not of one particular race from entry.

To be honest I don't really care. I think all award shows are stupid, the only one I watch is the Oscars. I just think the people boycotting them are being absurd.

The problem of diversity in Hollywood does not begin with the Oscars. There are currently talks of restructuring the Academy's membership, which isn't a bad idea, but that doesn't change the fact that 90% of mainstream American cinema is made by, starring, and about white people.

And it will also possibly create a backlash next year if there are 13 black people nominated for Oscars with people saying it's affirmative action in Hollywood. Although I think it would be absolutely hilarious if there are 20 white people nominated again.

I only watch the Oscars almost solely due to the historical significance they hold. Admittedly I look forward to watching it every year and every year I get about 5 minutes in before telling myself 'I can't believe I'm watching this.'

Diversity is absolutely important, but again the only movies and performances and technical achievements that should be nominated are the very best. 12 Years a Slave didn't win out of pity, it was an excellent film and the best of the year. The film wasn't owed anything or benefited from a handicap, it was a damn great film and I would've been outraged if it lost because of that reason.

I could care less about the red carpet, celebrity bullshit. I want to see clips of the films I haven't seen (which they've annoyingly shown less and less of over the years) and of course the winners in the major categories. Not gonna lie, it also reinvigorates me in a way. I'm never discouraged as a filmmaker that my work won't take me to bigger things down the line, but watching the best of the year come together for this gives me an extra push to be there myself one day. Lame, yeah, but every time the show ends I run into my room and get back to work.

Dracula SnoBorderZeroNew Academy Rules: Membership has to be renewed every 10 years and you must be active in the industry to be accepted. Old people freaking out now. BUT if you're active for 30 years, meaning you're a Hollywood heavyweight, you get a lifetime membership. Certain old people ain't freaking out. By the way, here's Ice Cube talking about the Oscars: The problem of diversity in Hollywood does not begin with the Oscars. There are currently talks of restructuring the Academy's membership, which isn't a bad idea, but that doesn't change the fact that 90% of mainstream American cinema is made by, starring, and about white people. On the animation side, Disney is releasing Moana which is about Hawaiians. The Rock, naturally, is the lead actor.

You know why I want to see that happen?

I think I'm willing to live with John Williams' nomination because of this:
It's no duel of the fates, but it was perfect for the moment.

Doomsday Dracula SnoBorderZero IanTheCoolPG Cooper 's favorite movie of the year, The Big Short, won the Producer's Guild Award for Best Film. Unlike the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards, this one matters. The Big Short is now the frontrunner to win Best Picture at the Oscars. The Screen Actor's Guild, the largest branch of the Academy, could change things, but till then, Adam McKay is king. Sorry, Alejandro.
