So we're doing an award for best ensemble now? Is that basically going to be the metric that this is going to be judged off? Or maybe the other element would be if there's a breakout star in a movie; someone the casting director "discovered". In theory it's supposed to be the latter, but in practice it will probably be the former. Were I to vote for something like that I'd probably look for movies that have lot of kids or non-actors in them that needed to be cast or a lot of bit parts that needed to be smartly cast, but I doubt the actual voters will think that through very deeply and will just vote for whatever movie has the most celebrities in it. Which movie would have won this year? Barbie? Or Killers of the Flower Moon? Oppenheimer? The Holdovers? Oppenheimer

It's where we'll see a movie like Amsterdam get a nomination. Or even win.

More likely it's just going to be a proxy for whatever the Best Picture like Best Director and Best Editing are.

High jacking this thread for fangirl reasons. Godzilla Minus One just won a grand total of eight awards at the Japan Academy Film Prize ceremony, including Best Picture. It is the second Godzilla film to take the top prize, after 2016's Shin Godzilla, which won seven awards. It also beat out Perfect Days for the trophy, which was Japan's submission (and nominated) for the International Oscar.
The other awards it took: Best Supporting Actress - Sakura Ando Best Screenplay Best Cinematography Best Lighting Direction Best Art Direction Best Sound Recording Best Film Editing
Awards it lost: Best Director: Wim Wenders - Perfect Days Best Actor: Koji Yakusho - Perfect Days Best Actress: Sakura Ando - Monster (she won two awards for two separate movies) Best Music: Blue Giant
Other Awards: Best Animation Film: The Boy and the Heron Best Supporting Actor: Hayato Isomura - The Moon Best Foreign Language Film: Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One

The Oscars are in 30 minutes! An hour early this year! Let me take a moment to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Doomsday claiming that Lord of the Rings: Return of the King had a 0% chance of winning Best Picture. Here’s to Chris Nolan and the Barbie gang.

I was thinking the exact same thing. If each actor award has five presenters, we're easily going into overtime.
