Way more captain America 1 than I wanted. With pine not coming back how will there be any heart in the sequel?
I liked gal gadot a lot, but I don't think there was much to work with. Some of the acting in this was atrocious. The hand to hand fight scenes were cool and looked good, could use a director with a more action oriented pedigree for the sequel.
Has potential, hamstrung by a silly story with some awful characters, the chief is by far the worst character and actor paid to read lines on camera in a long time.

I liked it, but some parts needed to be trimmed, like the team of stereotypes.

Wonder Woman opened to an incredibly enthusiastic response about a month ago and having finally caught up with the film I can say I’m largely on board. This is a really solid blockbuster and it’s also exactly the movie DC needed right now. Taking some of the stronger elements from Snyder’s Superman films, namely the gorgeous visuals and the sense of weight, and adding a lighter and more inspiring tone, director Patty Jenkins has made a film that nicely walks the line of fun escapism but still maintains a certain seriousness. The film is set during World War I and while the presentation is still bound by a PG-13 rating, Jenkins does still manage to convey the horror of war in a way which is felt but not overbearing. This is important for the story too, as Wonder Woman’s arc is built largely around a naive outsider who learns of humanity’s potential for cruelty. This also makes the beacon of hope that is Wonder Woman all the more inspiring, precisely because she shines during a period of darkness. Gal Gadot brings the right mix of innocence and compassion, along with a warrior’s sense of purpose and drive.
The film is somewhat reminiscent of Captain America in how it roots a superhero story in a real war, and it is also comparable to Thor in how it is working with both superheros as well as classic mythology. However, while Thor tried to distance the mythic aspects of the story and see it more as some light science-fiction, Jenkins fully embraces the Greek mythos inherent to Wonder Woman and the way she fuses this with early 20th century history is pretty neat. That alone helps make Wonder Woman feel special, but just as a superhero movie, the film features an engaging adventure plotline and some strong action scenes. The highlight is the trench sequence which eventually leads to a village siege. The scene is not only technically well-executed and exciting, but also inspiring in how Wonder Woman and her comrades save so many. Comparatively, the climax is a little sloppy and dangerously close to being swallowed into an overly computer generated mess, but the emotional weight of the scene is enough to carry one through.
For all of the film’s strong elements, Wonder Woman is held back by a handful of issues. The film could have used a better villain, some of the supporting characters are a little stock, the film’s structure is ripped straight from Richard Donner’s Superman, and the aforementioned climax is a bit of a letdown. Still, I can only be so down on Wonder Woman, which does manage to inspire and generally performs quite well as a crowd pleaser.

Finally watched this. Is this the best DCU movie? Obviously. Is this the best DCU has to offer? I hope not. It's a fun movie but there's really not much more to it than that. It's very much the same as we've seen before with the hero set-up, discovery and demonstration of powers and a climax with a woefully underdeveloped villain so VFX heavy that it's boring. There weren't a lot of huge missteps and it's sad that that's the standard for quality when it comes to DC movies nowadays but other than introducing Wonder Woman it really doesn't bring anything new to the table. This isn't to say I disliked the movie but I think much of the praise might be a little overblown....I'm not quite sure why that might be though, can't quite put my finger on it....

I have a hard time seeing anything that offensive in what he said. The movie itself wasn't that great and followed formula to the letter and yeah, there was certainly an eye candy aspect to the marketing. Sounds more like people are ignoring his statements and just going after him because he criticized something that has women in it. Unheard of, I know.

The response is maybe a bit hyperbolic, but I do think his comments are pretty dumb and not fully thought out. Basically he's saying Wonder Woman is not as good a female icon as someone like Sarah Connor because Sarah is A. not beautiful and B. very flawed, but that presumes that a woman who is beautiful can't also be a strong icon/role model and it also ignores the flaws that Wonder Woman did have and which she overcame in the film (namely her naivety). But let's be real, the only reason Jimmy C is mad is because people were touting Wonder Woman as the first female action hero (which, yeah, isn't true) and Cameron's infinite ego said, "Hey! What about me!"

He didn't say she wasn't beautiful. He said she wasn't a beauty icon. There is a difference.
If I had been putting kick-ass female characters in movies decades before a lot of this feminist nonsense started touting strong women haven't been in film, I might have the same thoughts. Still, there really wasn't any reason to comment on this. It served no purpose. James Cameron typically stays in the background doing his own thing and I feel like he isn't really all caught up on the latest movies, but watches one now and again and has some skewed viewpoints as a result.

Just an idiotic statement from James Cameron meant to underline how important he considers himself to be. As all such claims usually go, this one also only winds up making him look like an ass, and ultimately manages to negate his original intent.

My understanding is that he was at a Q&A about Terminator 2 in promotion of the upcoming 3D version and someone asked him if he paved the way for Wonder Woman and he answered. That makes it a little more understandable I guess, but still.

His publicist certainly did, even if he didn't. Either his response was the one he planned on giving, or he didn't bother preparing and gave this stupid response on the fly.

Wonder Woman, created by clay and brought to life by Zeus, meets Captain Kirk and together they go on a mission to stop Ares and end the World War. All this movie was missing was Wonder Woman punching a young Adolph Hitler in the face. It has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, last I checked, but it isn't the second coming of Christopher Nolan. It's alright. Gal Gadot is hot. Dr. Poison has an open invitation to my bedroom. Fisty Cuffs woman, I'd bang her. Chris Pine is an attractive dude. Lots of good looking people in this movie. But the plot is a joke and the action scenes are the punchline. Wonder Woman is a shitty character. Let's be real. Feminists, you deserve better than this. Watch Supergirl on Netflix. Melissa Benoist is fucking great and it tackles current day issues. Wow, you are not giving this movie enough credit.
