Sony Pictures is bullish enough on its upcoming Spider-Man Homecoming star Tom Holland that the studio is doubling down on the young actor by building a second major franchise around him. Holland is attaching to star in Uncharted, in what will be redrafted as a prequel to the treasure-hunting action storyline in the Naughty Dog video game for PlayStation.
Shawn Levy is directing a film that will take its inspiration from a sequence in the third iteration of the video game that focused on the young thief Drake, and his first encounter with the professional rogue, Sullivan. This reformulation of the franchise was an inspiration of Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman after seeing the latest cut of the Spider-Man film, sources said.
The studio has tried for years with various directors to get this video game to launch a franchise, with past scripts from Joe Carnahan, David Guggenheim and Eric Warren Singer. Sony Pictures will now set a new scribe to draft the story line that captures the protagonist as he grows into the treasure hunter Nathan Drake, who made the game a top seller. Uncharted is produced by Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner and Ari Arad. deadline.com/2017/05/tom-holland-uncharted-nathan-drake-movie-spider-man-homecoming-shawn-levy-1202099530/

He's 12. Might as well make a new Agent Cody Banks.

I know that it's impossible to make a good video game movie, so I don't really care either way, especially with a franchise that couldn't work as a movie, buuuut, it's still funny to see one shoot itself in the foot so quick.

Mark Wahlberg cast as Sully. Two Sully movies seems excessive.

You know what...he actually looks more like Nathan Drake in that shot than I thought he would.

SnoBorderZeroTom Holland’s publicist is the hardest working person in Hollywood collider.com/tom-holland-uncharted-movie-nathan-drake-bad-performance/"As soon as you start worrying about 'Do I look good in this shot?' acting becomes something other than playing a character. I think there are elements of my performance in Uncharted where I kind of fell under that spell of being 'I want to look good now. I want this to be my cool moment.' I had to play this very tough, very stoic guy – basically be Mark Wahlberg. My character is supposed to be a fucking action hero in this moment! Look, I haven’t seen it, so I don’t know if I succeeded in that. But it was an important lesson learned, because, at times, it was less about land a mark and go through this scene and more about land a mark, stand like this and see my bulging biceps... It was a mistake and is something that I will probably never do again."

I don't think I've ever heard of an actor openly panning their own performance before a movie even comes out. If he feels this way though, then this movie very likely sucks.

Holland generally seems pretty honest when he speaks but it's also a game to promote yourself. He knows that and if he's pre empting critiques, then yep,it's probably gonna suck.
This movie has gone through so much drama to get made.

The makers of the game naughty dog have said they write the story around set pieces. So like the plane going down and stuff, their finale set pieces that they think of are then written around, the story takes a back seat to the action (which on a video game makes perfect sense).
And the movie sure looks like they took that inspiration and ran with it.

Man, I can't tell you how much I dislike the choice of Tom Holland here.
