There's no way Tarantino was the first person to come up with that. I bet Albert R. Brocolli had a copy of the book in a cabinet with a glass front with "break in case of emergency" sign next to it.

EON didn't have the rights to Casino Royale for decades. Although, and this was discussed at the time, Tarantino, during the promotional tour for Kill Bill, did talk about his desire to make Casino Royale with Pierce Brosnan. Then shortly after EON teamed up with Sony to "reboot" the franchise and they choose to make Casino Royale with a new actor. Timing was too suspicious and their treatment of Brosnan's exit was a dick move. Ultimately, I think Tarantino did have some influence.

Anyway...
