I went to see Colossal last night, and it was great. Every giant monster movie spends most of it's screen time on a series of human characters having to deal with the problem of a kaiju destroying a city. These characters generally feel tacked on as filler between cool action scenes of the kaiju crushing buildings and shrugging off everything the military can throw at it. Not so, with Colossal.
The human characters this time around are vital to the story. The notion of people behaving with complete disregard for the world around them and throwing the lives of others into chaos is taken to a whole new level. Check it out.
In addition to the feature, there is also a short film at the beginning called 5 Films About Technology that I quite enjoyed. This appears as though it's going to be an ongoing thing with any movie distributed by NEON (formerly known as Drafthouse Films) the same way Pixar does.

There are a lot of themes I would like to discuss, but it would entirely spoil the film.
I loved this movie. I absolutely cannot stand Anne Hathaway, but she was great in this movie. I can say it was a better Kaiju film than Pacific Rim, and the character story was extremely powerful. Jason Sudekis - well ... this was a very different role for him, and I can at least say his acting performance was top-notch, because I had all kinds of strong feelings about him while watching this.
8/10 - Very Good movie

I liked it. Though it took some odd turns.
