You rarely hear Howard Shore in the conversation when people are throwing around best composer accolades.
Is he being criminally overlooked or is he destined to always be considered a tier below the greats?

Outside of LOTR his stuff always sounded a bit generic to me. The scores worked fine for the movies but they aren't the kind of scores that make you jump up and label their creator a genius. Nothing wrong with that, someone has to score the kind of movies that don't want to call attention to their music.
