I never said Tom Hardy was short. I said he was far too short for Bane.
I don't think getting someone who was taller and more muscular would be considered going the complete opposite of the "realistic" approach Nolan went with. It would have been pretty much the same. I don't think Hardy sold some epic performance as bane, considering he just walked around, face covered up, and his voice done in post. Hell, they could have even got Hardy to do the voice and just had a big guy doing the live-action performance, like was done with Darth Vader (which is an appropriate comparison).
I think Bane would have been far more brilliant with someone like Hafþor Julius Bjornsson doing the live action stuff, with someone doing some great voice acting in post.

Why do we need realism for a guy from another universe?
5'9"... in heels maybe. And I love Hardy. Go look up my Mad Max thread from the CS days. Guy kills it in small roles, and he will kill it in Mad Max.
Apoc is a huge being. Hardy is not huge.

I'd rather have a presence of a good actor who can pull of a role. Than someone who is a wrestler and just huge.
Acting goes a lot farther than just being huge.

You expect more out of Xmen movies than I do, clearly.
And maybe it is me, but I always saw Apoc being played by a black guy... am I the only one?

www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=125069X-Men: Apocalypse to Focus Heavily on Magneto and Mystique RomanceDetails are beginning to come together surrounding director Bryan Singer's next foray into 20th Century Fox's cinematic X-Universe, X-Men: Apocalypse. Today, The Hollywood Reporter claims that the script has a heavy focus on the romance between Michael Fassbender's Magneto and Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique. According to the outlet, that plot is "front and center" to the storyline. Coupling this information with what we learned in September about the dynamic between Mystique and Nicholas Hoult's Beast, it sounds like a safe bet that we'll see some kind of romantic triangle. Also set to star James McAvoy (with more cast expected to be announced soon), X-Men: Apocalypse is scripted by Simon Kinberg, Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris. Said to be the conclusion of a trilogy started with X-Men: First Class and continued with X-Men: Days of Future Past, cameras will start rolling on X-Men: Apocalypse in Montreal beginning April, 2015 for a May 27, 2016 release.

Not suprising news given the material. Its all in how they treat it. I'm just so happy to finally see Apocalypse on the big screen.

Oh man last of the trilogy :/ While it may be the last of the trilogy for this particular story arc, I don't know that it's going to result in a complete reboot for subsequent films in the X-Men movie franchise. The way things have been set up, Fox can get away with using Days of Future Past as the springboard for a soft reboot. I suspect that following either Apocalypse or the final Wolverine solo film, the franchise will settle back down in the present day. It's possible that McAvoy and Fassbender will stick around, but everyone else will likely be recast. If Fox can't get either of their leads to commit to another trilogy, they may very well decide to just reboot the whole thing, though. The X-Men series has certainly had a longer run than any other superhero film series so far. Nine films over the span of sixteen years is more than just respectable, even if a couple of them sucked.

I'm not all that familiar with the X-Men comics. I know the characters from the films and, when I was much younger, FOX's animated series in the 90's. If they don't reboot, then what do you think they should do next?

What do you think they should do next? Stay the course. Days of Future Past was a "soft reboot" for the series. They've already altered the future of these characters. Just make an X-Men movie that takes place in the 1990's and re-introduces the characters from the original trilogy. Even though the first X-Men was released in 2000, the story takes place in "the not too distant future." That could mean anything and allows wiggle room to re-establish those characters and do some things differently this time. Maybe Cyclops won't be a push-over this time. Maybe Storm will actually have an African accent this time. Maybe the Pheonix saga with Jean Grey will play out differently this time. Maybe Rogue can be her true sassy Southern belle this time. Maybe Wolverine plays a different role this time. The possibilites are endless and they don't have to start from scratch. They have the foundation from this new trilogy.

If they don't reboot, then what do you think they should do next? Well, Fox has already made clear that they intend to expand the X-Men Universe. Deadpool is coming for certain, X-Force and Gambit are in development and of course another X-Men movie is inevitable. If Fox wants to emulate the kind of success Marvel Studios has enjoyed with The Avengers, they may decide to explore some of the various crossover stories such as Mutant Massacre, X-Tinction Agenda, X-Cutioner's Song, Phalanx Covenant, etc to take place every few films. Of course, in order to do crossover stories, you've got to have a diversity of teams. If X-Force performs well, other splinter factions of the X-Men could get their own film series as well, such as the New Mutants/Generation X, X-Factor and Excalibur. Of these, I'd expect New Mutants/Generation X to be first. Fox could develop it as a sort of YA film series, which is something that every studio seems to want lately. If they decide to develop X-Factor, they'll likely go with the version of the team which was sponsored by the US government to fight mutant terrorism.

It’s not exactly a surprise given what we know so far about Bryan Singer’s upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, but Patrick Stewart confirmed today that neither he nor Ian McKellen would be reprising their respective roles as Charles Xavier or Erik Lehnsherr in the forthcoming mutant ensemble. “I was learning quite a lot more about it last night,” Stewart tells Larry King (via Yahoo! Movies), hinting that he’s still maintaining a close connection to the franchise. “It is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters. And so I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance.” Confirmed to star James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac and Nicholas Hoult (with more names expected to be confirmed shortly), X-Men: Apocalypse is scripted by Simon Kinberg, Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris. Said to be the conclusion of a trilogy started with X-Men: First Class and continued with X-Men: Days of Future Past, cameras will start rolling on the next adventure in Montreal beginning April, 2015 for a May 27, 2016 release. It was also recently reported that the new film is looking to cast younger versions of Jean Grey (Phoenix), Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Ororo Monroe (Storm). www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/400681-no-patrick-stewart-or-ian-mckellen-for-x-men-apocalypse

Awe I can see Wolverine having fun with this scott summers. But still think they are missing actress for younger characters. As young raven looks nothing like old raven. Neither does young Jean look like Famke Janssen s Jean.

Will wolverine feature heavily in this one? I thought he met Scott and Jean for the first time in the first X-Men?
Or did the events of DOFP spawn a new timeline, Star Trek style?

Everything that happened in X-Men: First Class and DoFP still stands, but everything afterward is influenced by the Butterfly Effect. The old timeline was a jumbled mess of continuity errors anyway, so no great loss. These new actors are all about the same age, while in the original X-Men film, Jean and Storm were a decade older than Cyclops.
