Could be interesting, but because it's Kevin Smith I have doubts.

DoomsdayCould be interesting, but because it's Kevin Smith I have doubts. I went down the rabbit hole and watched some of Kevin Smith's YouTube videos. In addition to podcasting, the guy is a fucking YouTuber. Remember when he used to make movies?! Anyway, I don't know what the fuck happened to this guy. Not only is he a pandering fanboy but he's clearly in the pockets of studios. Remember when he used to do Q&A shows and talk mad shit about everyone? That Kevin Smith is LONG gone. I don't even recognize him anymore. He's the middle aged guy who burned every bridge and his only friends are 20-something's who ironically hang out with him.

Whoever wrote this article doesn't know a bloody thing about Kevin Smith. He's had far more than two movie/TV projects that have failed to get off the ground over the past couple of years. What's more, this is hardly an unusual situation. Projects fall apart all the time in Hollywood, and the AV Club knows it perfectly well.
I'm not going to pretend that KS is some sort of misunderstood genius. He's not, but he's hardly deserving of the sort of scorn that gets dumped on him. Despite all the shit he's talked about various figures in Hollywood, it hasn't hurt his career. Universal Pictures was happy to work with him to develop the Mallrats TV series. WB is eager to employ him on a regular basis on a variety of TV and film projects. While Kevin has had a number of box office failures lately, those films cost so little to make that just selling the broadcast rights to Netflix (which he did) is enough to put those projects into the black.

And he's STILL bitching about reviews from critics. He says 'my podcast inspired me to return to filmmaking to make these movies.' He makes them, they're retarded, people hate them then he says 'well I made them for me, not for critics. Hey let's make a passive aggressive youtube video about their reviews.' Maybe his next movie Moose Jaws will get all the critical acclaim he thinks he deserves.

People that makes movies solely for themselves completely deserve the backlash they receive. Look, I get that it's "your" artistic vision, and it's "your" movie. But in the end, if it's made for only yourself to enjoy and not others, then what the hell is the point? It reminds me of M. Night whining about everyone's negativity towards his shitty Avatar film. He whined that his 6-year-old son liked it, and that's the age group it's intended for so if 6-year-olds like it that means it was a good film. Great logic.

I rather fund a good movie than someone's vanity project. If Kevin Smith were loaded and paying for his shit than he can make all the Yoga Hosers he wants. But for now he's stealing resources from more deserving people.

Yoga Hosers is one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life. And I was a Kevin Smith fan at one point. Didn't even hate Tusk or Red State.

Mariah Carey's Glitter, Will Smith's After Earth, John Travolta's Battlefield: Earth, M. Night's The Lady in the Water, John Cougar Mellencamp's Fall From Grace, Eddie Murphy's Harlem Nights - those were truly giant wastes of money.
