This movie is... good. I'm... shocked? PhantomKnight 's favorite actress, Melissa McCarthy, stars as a former billionaire who must rebuilt her wealth after going to prison for insider trading. Along with her former assistant (Kristen Bell), she starts a rival organization to the Girl Scouts and hilarity ensues. Well... not really. The movie is sweeter and more plot driven than I expected. The dumb humor isn't as prominent as the marketing leads you to believe. It's also quite funny in context. When there's actually a story and character development it's easy to laugh along.

These are the same critics that gave Ghostbusters (2016) a 73%.

They had a lot more invested in Ghostbusters politically than they did in The Boss.
Now if you said that they're the same critics that gave The Heat a 65% then we'd be cooking with gas.

The Heat is terrible. An example of a movie with no story and one-dimensional characters. Critics liked it, and it did well at the box office, because of Sandra Bullock. Spy is a better comparison. That movie is stupid, but it's actually kinda funny and McCarthy is toned down. But in the Boss you're not expected to believe she's an action star. The more grounded story served her better. Think of it this way. If you thought Ace Ventura was annoying and The Mask too cartoonish, Liar Liar would be your cup of tea.

I recall The Boss being pretty good, but obviously forgettable.
