I happened to re-watch the original last week and y'know...animation serves this story so well that it's just hard for me to imagine stuff like Genie's shape shifting working all that well in live action.

I happened to re-watch the original last week and y'know...animation serves this story so well that it's just hard for me to imagine stuff like Genie's shape shifting working all that well in live action. This has definitely been the main thing on my mind. No idea how they're going to handle the Genie, but I would imagine it'll have to be more grounded. Not making him blue lends himself to that thought and was probably for the best. They could still allow him to make things overly magical. Creating over-the-top scenes and imagery, but just not upon himself. |

According to Guy Ritchie, Will Smith IS going to be blue in the movie; they're just not ready to reveal that look yet. I'm still torn on that.

The fact that they're not ready to reveal it means there's probably some questions still swirling around that as well. He said he's going to be CGI most of the film, so even if some parts are simply colorized, in post. This image is his "human form". It might get a little crazy then.
