What the fuck is this show? It's about land dispute but it has a... supernatural twist?

The pilot was slow, or just methodically paced, but I have to say, I was very intrigued by the end and will definitely stick with it. Especially since it's only eight episodes.

I'm gonna give it another episode or two but the premiere didn't completely hook me. Tom Hardy is great, its well made but something is keeping me at arms length.

The second episode isn't likely to convert anyone over, but I still really like the steady build going on here. There's a lot of subtle information being thrown at us and I'm very absorbed into this nasty London. It's a show that undoubtedly will get better as it goes and reveals more. Tom Hardy has been fantastic in the lead.

Anyone else watch the season the whole way through? I thought it was very well done and sets itself up for very interesting things in season two. Hardy was excellent, and I feel like the supernatural elements never felt forced or overdone but settled in very nicely with this grimy London. I think now that people can binge it they'll find it enjoyable. I never agreed with the assertion that it was slow paced, but I did hear that a bit from friends I recommended it to. Jonathan Pryce was also excellent in it channeling a very High Sparrow-esque performance as the head of the East India Company.

I loved it. While not quite up there with the best shows on TV at the moment, it was always engaging and the production values were top notch. Hardy was Hardy, as per usual, and the convenience of his planning towards the end had more than a whiff of the Joker about it, but I could live with it.
It's been renewed by the BBC for a second series.

This show was trying way too hard. Those top hats... I mean come on... Tom you're short. Just accept it.
His step mom or whatever can only speak out of one half of her mouth? Why? And they kill off the sister just like that?
For some reason my masochistic tendencies carried me through this whole show. Seriously not worth it. I feel like going to find Nanook in the north (can't wait for the fishing scenes!) will help them for second season but it'll have to get really good reviews for me to come back.
How many grunts, pantless scenes, and soot covered Tom Hardy scenes do we need?
I'm shocked it got a second season.
If it didn't take in the first couple eps, don't force it.
