It's the same director, Dexter Fletcher, but Elton wasn't annoying like Queen. This was supposed to be an R-rated Freddy Mercury biopic starring Sacha Baron Cohen but the band wouldn't license their music unless it was PG-13 and was gave the whole band equal time. There was really nothing Singer nor Fletcher could do to salvage that.
