I had never watched this show in its entirety. In college I watched 4 or 5 episodes of the first season but fell off because Netflix didn't have the next disc available. I'm just about done with season 2 and man, this show is something. You can really see its influence in other series like Breaking Bad and Boardwalk Empire. I know I'm about 15 years late on this but has anyone else given The Sopranos a spin?

I've never watched it period. I'd like to give it a shot, but I'm just not terribly interested in mob stories.

I binged it once upon a time. Cool ride, but I wouldn't stay it stuck with me.

I binged through this series in .... 2015?
I love mob stories, and I went into this understanding that it opened the door to television essentially being where it is now. I have a lot of respect for the show, for that, and I was throughly entertained throughout - I loved it. Perhaps because it wasn't such an unfamiliar concept in 2015, but I didn't find the vague ending to be all that controversial. I understood that the scene ended where it did to further reiterate that you never know when it might be your time - that's just life in the mob. I didn't need to know if Tony and/or his family got it or not in that moment, it was possible it would happen someday.

I watched about half of the first season. It was good, but holy shit Tony's son is annoying. I need to try and watch it again. Right now I'm trying to get sabin26 through Boardwalk Empire. It's my second viewing, and his first. Maybe when we get through that I can convince him to watch The Sopranos with me.

Boardwalk Empire is great. I follow Meg Steedle on Twitter and Instragram and she's great about communicating back.

So the roomie hasn't ever seen this and we are crushing through the thing, I remember absolutely hate watching the last few seasons but wow. I forgot how the quality really falls apart after season 2. And the product placement is easily the most egregious I've literally ever seen. At least ten products or shops or franchises every episode.
And the fucking dream episodes. Fucking just wake up please.
And how much perceived persecution for Italian Americans is downright laughable (this is what got us Antonin Scalia as a scotus judge tho... So easy to forget), give the Christopher Columbus episode a whirl if you forgot about it. Worth watching to see if they are laughing their asses off off screen after takes.

The dream episode is pretty excruciating, I'm amazed they let that drag for as long as they did.
And the Coke product placement is almost comical, I came to enjoy it after a while. It reminds me of one of my favorite soda placements ever, I think it was in that HBO movie Recount. There's a meeting with a bunch of people and some Dr. Pepper's sprinkled around then out of nowhere one of the guys stands up, walks outside and says 'Can we get some more Dr. Pepper in here?' It's amazingly funny.

Mondays Columbus day. Put the episode on this weekend. Have some laughs. It's worth it.

I'm sure you guys have seen chase came out and confirmed what he thought happened in the end.
Tony got killed in the diner.
Def wasn't something I was voting for but def makes sense in the context of that final season. Coulda showed us Tony's head stone in that shit hole prequel to confirm this though, woulda been a nicer Easter egg than angel spirit Christopher being annoying.

Yeah... that's what I believed happened, but there's more power in me coming to that conclusion myself.
Death of the author, baby.

Three episodes into season 5.
The guy that plays Uncle Jun really has a great showcase.
Find myself wondering why we don't see some of the side character actors popping up in other things. That look between Artie Bucco and Bobby at the Janice/Tony fight is high comedy.
Also, I was told I'd love Bobby as a character and that person was spot-on.

They're setting up the final Sopranos power struggle, almost all of the people in the big prison release play major roles down the road.

Among everyone in the crew he seems to be the one who is actually a good guy at heart. Then you watch Tony and Janet try to corrupt him with mixed success which is why you feel sorry for him as the series goes on.

Absolutely. But also, the scene in the final season where he just physically lashes out at Tony when he and Janet and Tony and Carmela are playing the board game is honestly pretty great.

Season 5 doesn't skimp on the guest stars.
Loggia, Buscemi, and Frank Vincent I expected to be great from early in the season, but I'm on episode 6 and David Straithairn is knocking it out of the park.

I randomly saw on IMDb that Dominic Chianese's (Uncle Junior) birthday is today at 91 years young. I clicked on his name and on his filmography it says that he's attached to star in a remake of Umberto D. Wow, kind of a random movie to remake and he might be a little old but hey it's always good to see him on screen.

Artie Bucco is such a a fun character in his appearances. Watching the credit card fraud episode of s6 right now. And his confrontation to the staff is hilarious.
