The Magnificent Seven Movie Review Thread.
I do believe this movie was remade before somewhere In the 80s or 90s.So this would be the second remake attempt. The whole concept Is a pretty good idea if successful. Cause you can do sequels for in the west days there is allot of Bad people and allot of people can be made into magnificent characters.
As far as it compares too the original I am going too need see all things Magnificent as far as that goes. So I am purely reviewing this movie on the film that was made and not how it holds up against the others. Best version being the Seven Samurai.
The Movie itself was well casted for its overall character's and I farqua does a good job their. Dont Know who played the girl. She could have been played by anyone but the actress work's for the character. Washington , Hawk and Pratt were very good but the Asian character stole the movie for me really.
The villain could have been better casted I suppose but he resemble a lot of the simular style of western villains. Washington was convincing as a Bounty Hunter and I liked Pratts banter with the mexican gunfighter. I did kinda feel like the formation of the grouping of the Seven was rushed some and have heard better scores too be honest was my only real problems but I get why sometimes its got to be fast teaming up especially in a western. The Ending was wall to wall action and I would have liked too had seen a Body Counter for this movie for I think more people died in this movie then 30 of the Dukes Westerns. All I can say is its good movie and its a good escape film for a few hours if need that kind of thing. 8/10.

This was a fun entertaining movie... Period. That's all I really wanted from this movie, a setup in the old west with villains and heroes. If that is what you are looking for... You'll have a great time.
7.5/10

Watched this Sunday. It was about what I expected. They removed the classic music and replaced it with something blandly generic. The nuanced story taken from The Seven Samurai was replaced with a blandly generic one as well. The characters were made as distinctive as possible while also lacking any real depth, and were far removed from the originals, aside from Yul Brenner's Chris (Sam Chisolm) and Robert Vauhn's Lee (Goodnight Robichaux). Any notion that our hero Sam has helped this poor town out of a sense of honor is tossed out the window during the finale, when it's revealed that the villain is responsible for murdering his family years before. How original. Never seen that before... On the whole, it's not bad. It's just not particularly good, either. In a desperate attempt to engender itself to the audience, they finally play the original theme during the closing credits. If you've never seen the original The Magnificent Seven, watch that instead. If you've never seen The Seven Samurai, watch that instead. If you've seen them both, and have nothing better to do, this new film is a mildly inoffensive way to kill two hours.

I dont think it would have been any good at all without Chris Pratt and Denafrio's character. I would have loved too have seen Sam Jackson as Washingtons character. The Indian and Asian character were good too watch fight wise but they made me not invested in there characters. Pratts character fit Pratts Star Lord Lovable Rebel style better then Pratts Jurassic World character.

As too your Spoiler I think we saw the story idea for Washingtons character its called Hang Em High minus the family element in Hang em high.[./spoiler]

If Washington were white, I'd agree. Considering the history of blacks in America and the events he describes, the scar brings to mind a very different series of events that those of Clint Eastwood.

My biggest problem with the movie was lack of blood which Leone did well to show the example of how real bloody these fights would have been. All of Eastwood films changed westerns for shoots outs had too be bloody. Would have loved to had seen eastwood direct something like this

Come on, I have to say it: not so magnificent, this movie. Not that I was walking in expecting something all that great, mind you, but I at least was hoping for a fun Western, and I didn't even really get that. The potential was certainly here for that, however, and the fact that this remake can't even achieve it is all the more perplexing, given the pedigree behind it. What it all ultimately boils down to is a lack of passion from anyone involved; Antoine Fuqua, who I've seen good movies from, feels like he's not only directing on autopilot, but also trying to throw every Western trope he can into this movie, to the point where it feels like an awkward, slightly disjointed mishmash of almost every popular Western aspect. The tone of the film is what takes the biggest hit in that regard, because it can never decide whether it wants to be a fun romp or something more gritty, and even the humor feels kind of halfhearted. Denzel Washington and Vincent D'Onofrio are the best out of all the performers here, with everybody else failing to leave a mark. Chris Pratt especially feels like he needs to start changing it up a little. Some of the action scenes, particularly the climax, are fun to watch, but again, there's not a whole lot of emotional investment behind them.
I haven't even seen the original, and I still have to scratch my head at the necessity of this remake -- beyond the cash-grab, that is.

Robert Vaughn passed away. All the actors from the original Magnificent Seven are now dead.
