Binged this over the last week.
I really like it. They don't keep the audience guessing too much or for too long. The antagonists aren't always, and often times not, necessarily bad guys, just give the President headaches.
I thought the last shot where Hannah is looking back and forth between the two monuments was a little too on-the-nose in terms of dramatic cheese, but it has been solid at every turn, and I've never found myself bored.

It's got some cheap sets at points, and is shot and written in a very "network-tv" friendly way. But if you can get past that, it's engaging entertainment.

Show's transitioning from 24 to The West Wing. By season 2 they'll probably drop the terrorist stuff in favor of social politics. The Maggie Q character is becoming more irrelevant with each new episode. The evil Vice President lasted like 2 episodes. The sketchy Chief of Staff turned out not to be too sketchy. They already found the bad guys hideout. This stuff gonna be resolved by the end of the season. Instead they're gonna have Jack Bauer tackle idiotic Republicans to mirror the Trump administration. They just did gun control. Immigration is probably around the corner. Syria. Russia. You name it.

Yeah, unfortunately, this last episode was the first bust for me. They very much did a huge disservice to the Montana plotline and ended up giving us nothing there other than "here is where they hid the bombs." Otherwise, it was entirely a game of politics in passing the gun control bill. Weak episode.

it was entirely a game of politics in passing the gun control bill. Weak episode. I don't know if I'd call it a weak episode. The show's ratings have been declining. Only reason they're getting a season two is because, internationally, this is a Netflix series. I think audiences outgrew the 24-esque stuff after Trump got elected. They used that long mid-season hiatus to get a new showrunner and tweak the show. Pushing towards a more West Wing type show. Also, let's be real, Maggie Q was always the weak link on this show. I love Maggie Q. Nikita was great for a brief period. Stalker was an awesome show that got treated like garbage by CBS. I wanna see her succeed, but this just wasn't the show. The heart and soul of this show is Jack Bauer taking over the Presidency. Sooner or later they had to move beyond terrorism. It would have become repetitive and unrealistic. There's too many domestic and foreign issues out there. |

Good god that Ford product placement was just obnoxious. I thought something was going to happen with/to the vehicle given how much they focused on the product feature.
That said, the episode was strong and had a good ending, but I have some rather strong armchair criticisms of one plot point: When Maggie Q's character investigates and finds the CEO of the company she suspects to be involved with the conspiracy, why does she decide the best approach is the direct one? She goes to his land, asks about the guy who impersonated Catalan, and then gets thrown out. She showed all of her cards, and the only thing she got out of it was, what, an accidental admission that he is involved? If she suspected the CEO's involvement, I would think at least one person would have seen around the proverbial corner and said "You know, if you are right and he is involved, we need to be very careful with how we approach him and what we reveal we know."
The cliffhanger is exactly why. She played her cards, they shuffled her deck [Caruso sunglasses meme].
