Yeah you don't try to occupy a working police station. You quietly protest ouside, making sure you do not disrupt the daily workings of any of the businesses in the area including and especially the police station. Doctor King would be rolling in his grave.
The pinnacle of stupidity in government Why Republicans Are Voting to Repeal Obamacare—Again
As if begging for a Groundhog Day joke, House Republicans will vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act again on Tuesday. It'll be the 56th shot they've taken at the law, and just like every other time they've tried to erase President Obama's signature achievement, this attempt is doomed to fail. Republicans have nowhere near the veto-proof majority they'd need to kill Obamacare.
yup - when this country was formed you were a farmer or whatever, you served your country and then went back to the fields. It really wasn't a career for most.
That rationale also justifies many forms of oppression and ignorance, so...
The government is corrupt because politics have been turned into a career. It's supposed to be a public service. And when our elected officials are more interested in self-preservation than the people, you can see why issues arise.

Easy, honcho. I was questioning Ramplate's inference that colonial America still holds the gold standard on political policy. That's it.
There are a lot of differences between then and now and I think you are both oversimplifying things greatly. You can put your pitchforks away now.
Believe it or not Lobbyists existed back then too - they've always been there as well. there are just too many of them. A great number of politicians become lobbyists when they retire from office

I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:
I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.
I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures [that] are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.
I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.
I will not be ashamed to say "I know not," nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient's recovery.
I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. Above all, I must not play at God.
I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.
I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure.
I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.
If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.

Fox news is horrendous to the point that there's no need to acknowledge it because if you did every time they embarrassed themselves you'd literally spend your whole day highlighting it.
Better to spend your time enlightening anyone who actually watches that crap for non-ironic reasons.
We have some godawful press in the UK, The Daily Mail in particular, but even they have some stellar journalists in certain fields. Oodles of utter shite, yes, but they still have some legitimate journalists worth reading, which suggests that the crap that the others write is a direct result of the people that want to read it.
Sadly, a large, and vocal, part of the UK population aren't interested in discourse about bigger issues like immigration or our place in the EU or anything that can't be solved with a soundbite, they want to read about things happening now that they can have instant opinions on and judge immediately.
The modern, young adult in the UK is being groomed to think that everything they see of note in the news is disposable. They can read it today, judge it based on how what they're reading illuminates the details, and then it's on to tomorrow. The next thing will come along to be shocked at. They have no genuine interest in expanding their horizons, they just want to feel that there are people out there who agree with their blinkered opinion and that's enough.
"Oh my god, I can't believe that happened in Malaysia! That's so sad."
day 2: "Oh shit, the Russian occupation of Ukraine is madness. What are we going to do about it?"
day 3: "Wills and Kate are pregnant again. Hooray!"
The Ukrainian issue is a 2 inch column that they occasionally scan over thinking, "well, it's got such a small portion of the newspaper, it cant be that important."
I said in another thread, how I read about the holocaust in depth and the perspective that that puts life in.
People were so eager after 1945 to say that humanity will "never forget". "This was a one off." But they'd already forgotten by the 90s in Rwanda, and even before that in Tibet.
Can these people not read? Do they think the holocaust was made up?
I genuinely have no idea how anybody can read even the basic facts about what the nazis did and not become a complete humanitarian. A pacifist, even. I know we defeated them through warfare but I can imagine all the soldiers coming home and reading about what they were doing in the extermination camps and thinking...war stopped this, now all we have to do is show people what these people suffered through and that will be enough.
Only psychopaths wouldn't flinch at the details and the imagery.
When I think about Hitler I'm genuinely impressed. One man could persuade so many. His charisma and dominance must have been terrible to endure. I daresay if we had been in his presence he would have persuaded us. I'm just glad I wasn't born into Germany in that time. Or into Poland as a Jew. What horrors we have escaped.
And our lands were so hopeful and happy in the time after. Yet it has taken only 70 years for both the US and the UK to go down the toilet. "Democratic states" who are ran by the people with the highest 1% of the world's money, for the highest 1%. I follow a guy on Twitter (https://twitter.com/conradhackett) who has some amazing stats, one of which is:
Income gains going to top 1% in: 1954-7: 5% 1975-9: 25% 2009-12: 95%
Kind of says it all in the modern economy.
'Man is the cruelest animal.'
It will always be so.
Sorry, Angel. Haha. Bleak is the order of the day.
I also read a fascinating piece recently about the Nazis' industrial operational advancements and how that has effected business today and how companies mirror their regimented and socialist methods to enslave employees into performing the same menial tasks that they hate doing on a daily basis for life. The Nazis arguably spawned that rigid, unquestionable system.

Oh yeah, they changed the world of today in so many ways both good and bad, but quite often through horrid means.
