With Adam Deexan here and presumably drunk, and the shitstorm of the Rio Olympics in the news, it's time to talk about Eddie the fucking Eagle. I finally saw it recently and it's - awesome. I'm a young American so I don't know jackshit about Eddie the Eagle beyond what the movie tells me. He's a Forest Gump type who uses the help of Wolverine to be... mediocre at the Winter Olympics? Like Cool Runnings, a childhood favorite of mine, and Rudy, a classic among men, it's the story of people trying their best. You don't HAVE to be great. Just be passionate and work hard and have fun. In a time when Donald Trump could be President and Brexit happened, this is a nice feel-good movie to watch. Also, Matthew Vaughn > Christopher Nolan

This makes me feel ridiculously happy but I ain't seen it nor was I of the era when he was so iconic. You have spurred me on though. Was it really that good?

I was actually one of the few who saw it in theaters and have since picked it up on Blu Ray, and yeah...it's everything you'd expect from the typical inspirational true story sports movie, but damn, does it have a lot of heart. Taron Egerton is fast proving his worth because he makes Eddie insanely likable, and his relationship with Hugh Jackman's character is great to see blossom and play out. The movie reminded me almost exclusively of Cool Runnings (and this true story was actually the same year/Olympics that the Jamaican bobsled team came onto the scene), but every sports movie reminds you of another and Eddie the Eagle works so well because it gets you so invested in Eddie's aspirations.
