Is the Suicide Squad a bad movie? No. Not at all. Whether you think it's good or mediocre will depend on what you wanted from a Suicide Squad movie. The choice of villain was interesting to say the least.
Is there a mid-credit scene? Yes, and you'll want to stay for it. It's nothing exciting or funny, but it's decent fan service.
How's Jared Leto as The Joker? Should modern science figure out a way to bring Heath Ledger back from the dead? Leto is, honestly, I don't know. He's definitely my least favorite live-action Joker. Yes, even Ceasar Romero is better. But I don't know if that was Leto's fault or the script. I don't want to spoil anything, but other than fan service, there was no reason for The Joker to have been in this movie.
How's Harley? Super inconsistent. Script and poor directing ruined what could have been an iconic performance. Although, her appearance, is definitely iconic. Margot Robbie looks amazing and is photographed really well. The camera people definitely earned their paycheck.
How's Will Smith? Honestly, he's the best thing about this movie. Him and Viola Davis as Amanda Weller. They're so good they deserved to have been in a better movie.
What about Jai Courtney? He must have sucked, right? Nah. Jai Courtney is awesome. Killer Croc is awesome. Fire Boy is awesome. Katana is awesome. Great supporting cast. Honestly, they're probably the reason you won't hate this movie. The cast is just way too fun. Well, a lot of the cast members. Not all of them.
Good action scenes? Good humor? The jokes are inconsistent. The action is actually... refreshing. There's no major explosions. A city isn't destroyed. It's mostly just gun fire and fights. Old school stuff.
Is it worth the price of admission? It's a matinee.

I wish everyone would stop paying attention to Kevin Smith and that he would live out his days working in a comic book store and stay out of movies and public life.

Jared Leto is bitching that most of his scenes were cut.
Can't wait for the Ultimate Edition blu-ray.

This movie was terrible. A big mess. The Joker was probably the least interesting character out of the whole movie. He really serves no purpose to the movie or whatever plot there was. The action scenes felt lazy and were not well directed. Nothing drew me into the movie, nothing could get me really interested at all. The villain was terrible and some of the characaters were not well written at all. The best character for me was probably Diablo. He brought a little bit of "humanity" to his character. Maybe I was too overhyped for this, i dont know, but this was just a huge mess. Really disappointed with the Joker, man

Another case of squandered potential. The film spends what feels like the first 30 minutes introducing characters, when all of that could have been done during the opening credits and expanded on later. After Waller gives her plans for Task Force X and sells it to the government, we immediately get another scene in which she says all the same things to another group of government officials. It's pointlessly repetitive, since it does nothing to further the plot and doesn't provide any information the audience didn't just learn in the previous scene.
As for the team itself, it was severely lacking. Slipknot exists only to prove the neck bombs are real. Captain Boomerang exists only to provide aerial surveillance of the Big Bad for ten seconds at the end of the movie. Killer Croc adds nothing to the story at all. Katana is thrown into the mix as an afterthought and only give a cursory bit of background. Deadshot and Harley Quinn are fun to watch and the most developed. Diablo was surprisingly well handled for a D-list villain. Flagg is just a generic soldier with a hero complex. Waller is the quintessential HBIC and nothing more. The Big Bads of Enchantress and her brother are paper thin, while the side villain of The Joker is more developed and interesting.
What could have been a really fun ride is instead a blandly generic action movie with scattered hints at brilliance that are quickly extinguished.

I... kind of liked it.
Look it has problems. The villain was poorly chosen, the action scenes are good but not great, the exposition dump at the beginning is a bit much, but Will Smith is fun, Margot Robbie is fun, Viola Davis is well chosen, the basic "Dirty Dozen with Superheroes" idea is a good one, and David Ayer's moronic notion of what's "street" work better when he's making what is more or less an actual cartoon. Ultimately it's a movie made for 14 year olds, but it doesn't really pretend it isn't and I mostly enjoyed my time with it.

Dracula and I are on the same page, it seems. My Letterboxd review: I kinda, sorta liked it...I think? To be sure, this movie is a hot mess; you can tell there are two different cuts of the film vying for dominance. Where the editing is concerned, it IS all over the place...but part of me wonders if that was the intention? Don't take this as me saying it's a bad movie, because it isn't, it's just kinda schizo. The film also relies too heavily on pop songs to aid in some scene transitions, or just to be there in the background in general. Again, I'm wondering if that was intentional, given the fact that that this is a movie about a group of psychopathic bad guys, so maybe their thinking was, 'Let's make the editing in some of this as aggressive as possible.'? There was plenty of stuff that I enjoyed/liked about it, but almost nearly as much that just struck me as weird decision-making. The biggest offense of the movie in that regard is not just the choice of the villain for the film, but the way they are established as the main villain, meaning it just...happens. Said character is introduced and a few scenes later, boom, there's our villain. Then there's a secondary villain that kind of puts Marvel to shame in how little you can develop your antagonists. Also, the First Act of this movie in general is, like I said, schizo. But the movie better finds its footing as it goes along. Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto (whose screentime was criminally cut down on) are the standouts and I also liked Viola Davis. The action is really good and there are scenes of real personality throughout (the bar scene we glimpsed in the trailers is easily one of the best). Building off that, the chemistry between a lot of the Squad members is really strong and overall, I might be leaning more toward the positive side, but WB/DC needs to get a better grip on the steering wheel for this whole cinematic universe. To borrow a sentiment from Richard Roeper when he reviewed The Brothers Grimm in 2005: it's a mess, but a glorious mess. To an extent, at least.

I had always assumed that the Hot Topic kids had all sort of disappeared sometime around 2004, but I was apparently wrong. In fact this movie gave me the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing that more of what I used to think was cool is still "in" than I thought.

I hate The Brothers Grimm. The point of that wasn't me comparing Suicide Squad to Brothers Grimm at all. I was just borrowing the general statement because it seemed applicable. Suicide Squad has more going for it than The Brothers Grimm.

They really fucked up by not making Joker the main villain. There was an episode of Batman: The Animated Series where Joker has a bomb and Batman uses Harley to help find him. That should have been Suicide Squad. Joker gets control of a weapon. Batman is busy with all the Superman bullshit. So Amanda Waller sends Harley and the Suicide Squad to track down Joker. Along the way, Harley bonds with the Squad and at the end chooses "her friends" over Joker. And the movie could have cut back and forth between the mission and flashbacks to Joker & Harley's relationship.
