Based on a true story, although how accurate - I don't know, The Infiltrator stars Bryan Cranston as the undercover cop who takes down Pablo Escobar's money laundering network in Florida. Critics have complained that the film is cliche but I liked it. You do get all the usual tropes, but as long as the story is well-told and well-acted, it shouldn't really matter. What did bother me is how the John Leguizamo character became less relevant as the investigation progressed. When we meet these two characters, they're on opposite sides of a criminal empire. Cranston is spending time with billionaires while Leguizamo is hanging out with the street crew. That parallel and the way it affects the relationship between these two characters is the high point of the movie and they just throw it away. Either way, you should definitely check out The Infiltrator. It's the adult alternative this summer.

8 is the right score. Some of this ventured into trope territory, but, I liked how this wasn't another "guy infiltrates organized crime, gets found out, climax results in resolving this discovery," and was, instead, about how those who infiltrate can either be completely uninvolved, or entirely involved with the people they are catching. Bryan Cranston was, of course, great here, and the story moved seamlessly with the right amount of suspense and drama.
Side note: Leguizamo's gum-chewing at the wedding was obnoxious as hell.
8/10 (Great film)

I can count on one hand how many movies I have loved this year.

I'm currently an hour and twenty-five minutes in, and my God, it's so boring and cliched.
