Watched the first episode. It was meh, Danny McBride is basically playing Kenny Powers again. It had a few laughs but all-around it wasn't that great.

Did anyone else watch this? It got a lot better as it moved forward. It was never drop-dead hilarious like Eastbound and Down but it was a very entertaining show and I found myself really looking forward to new episodes. The ending was nuts too. Hoping it's renewed.

I don't know, I generally like my comedy dark but the extent to which the main characters in this were unlikable was really pushing it.

Goggins was borderline psychotic and McBride was channeling Kenny Powers to a T, but watching them destroy the principal was so cringe-worthy but at the same time so satisfying. You felt so bad for her while secretly rooting against her. It's a different kind of show and certainly is dark and really pushes the discomfort level, I'll give you that.

I ended up really liking it. I think there may have been elements of Kenny Powers with McBride's character in this, in that he's a manchild, but I honestly thought there was enough that seperated the two. And that was my biggest concerns in the previews, that it would be another Eastbound and Down, but it's really not.
Gamby is a guy, that despite the fucked up things he did, has more of a concisence than Kenny did, and I also think he's a bit more likeable. It's not always as noticeable, but I think it's there. And the fact that right off the bat you give him an ex-wife and teenage daughter was a nice touch.
