Rodriguez's movie was good. Yikes. Nothing he's done since Desperado was any good. Shane black at least has a much better track record. I'll reserve judgement until we actually see some action. |

I've seen an unfinished VFX version of this movie. It's not good.
Has very little Predator, Predator doesn't get going until halfway through the movie, the humans/soldiers are Shane Black cliches, the dialogue is fairly tongue-in-cheek and self-referential, but it's not as clever as it should be, and the movie is predictable as hell. Also very little innovation is brought to this latest version of the Predator. There's some new weaponry and an odd ability to be a larger Predator, but nothing too outside the box.
It's odd to me that they just can't do this franchise justice. It's really not that hard. This one's not as empty as Predators, but it's not as fun either. Predator 2 might sadly still be the best sequel of the franchise.

I thought Shane Black would bring some real creativity to the franchise, but it's completely run-of-the-mill. Little innovations regarding the Predators themselves and most of the movie focuses on your typical evil government officials trying to turn him into a weapon for them and the rag-tag group trying to stop them. It shouldn't be this hard to make a compelling Predator sequel. |
