I haven't seen the first Conjuring, but from what I'm told, it's WAY better. Anyway, this one is about the Enfield case in the London... projects? I liked that the movie acknowledged that this is all bullshit and that the Warrens are full of shit, but still had fun with it nonetheless. It's basically a combination of The Exorcist, The Evil Dead and Poltergeist. So the term "based on a true story" is used loosely and almost tongue-in-cheek. It's pure fantasy and very cliche, but fun to watch cause James Wan knows all the tricks & techniques. The guy doesn't make boring movies. It's nothing special, but it's a good date movie. Take your girl to see it. Ya'll will have a good time.

Well, i don't think they were full of shit, but yes, the "based on a true story" label is very loosely used on all three films.
Annabel is a haunted Raggedy Ann doll, not that fugly thing they used, and that stand alone movie is completely made up as no one knows where the doll came from before the nurses had it.
The first movie has a happy ending where the Warrens solve the family's problem. The actual case never resolved the family lived in the house for ten years, and just lived with the ghosts. (I'm reading the true story written by the oldest daughter)

The movie literally ends with an action scene. The real life Warrens were senior citizens not Stallone & Schwarzenegger. But to Wan's credit, the end credits feature the actual recording of "Bill." That was a bit chilling, although upon research, it was proven to be fake.

I thought this was much better than the first one. Had more depth to it and you really felt the connection and love the Warrens had for each other. Despite the scares and tension, this was kind of a love story in a way about The Warrens. There is kind of a cartoonish part that kind of brought this down a notch for me. Brought down the realism of the film a bit. But other than that, this is definitely a solid horror movie.

I cannot figure out how this made so much money. This kinda seemed like The Ring Knock off too me. I have seen the first and dont need too see this. Rotten Tomatoes and Critics loved this movie i hear. I think RT and whatever other critic see the bad movies drunk and the good movies they have a buzz and cannot see what there are looking at. Im not saying Turtles, X-Men or Warcraft were great marvels in film. I think people are tired of comic book movies and they dont wanna go too the movies. I think its why June movies go down some until July comes.

The Warrens felt like supporting characters to me, but yes, there was a lot of quiet moments where the actors could breath. Patrick Wilson gave a much better performance than necessary.

This was good. I liked the family in the first movie more than the family in this one, and the Crooked Man was cartoonish in a way that it took me out of the film a bit, but this was another solid horror film.

I really enjoyed this too. The 2hours 15mins run-time didn't even drag.
Personally, I liked this more than the first overall. The first had a better first 2/3rds but its conclusion let it down and it never recovered. They fixed that with the creepy nun this time around. Would've like a little explanation as to her get-up but whatevs.
Also, I keep forgetting that people still think ghosts are real in 2016. How queer.

Oh and I had issues with the accents but hey, at least it wasn't Dick van Dyke, amirite?

The forced Brit-speak of the kids in the playground was cringe-worthily stereotypical stuff. No way they were all British. The mother I'll concede.

I'm not at all convinced by John Oliver's "accent" either.

When compared against the first Conjuring -- which actually got even better for me on a second viewing -- The Conjuring 2 does indeed pale a bit. To get some of the negatives out of the way: the film is too long, the way the plot tries to have a reveal toward the end feels a little forced and contrived, there's some CGI that looks pretty out of place and the film lacks some of the simplicity of the first. On the other hand, James Wan continues to prove his mastery at the craft of not just the horror genre, but filmmaking in general. Whatever faults The Conjuring 2 has is more than made up for with Wan's direction. Yes, we've seen this type of movie countless times, but it's James Wan who makes it all so appealing again here. Just like the first film, tension is built through incredibly effective camerawork and his use of the various "tricks of the trade." There are a number of scenes in this film that are gripping and impressive just from a directing standpoint alone -- in particular the scene where Ed has a conversation with Bill Wilkins, who appears in the background of the scene in a very clever way, and it's one single take. Another positive about these movies continues to be the pairing of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who have great chemistry together and bring a lot of humanity to the proceedings. It highlights another element I think is so strong about these movies: James Wan and his screenwriters put as much emphasis on building the characters as they do the suspense and tension.
Overall, while The Conjuring 2 isn't as strong an effort as the first film was, it's still very much a worthy horror film that knows how the game is played. I'm totally open to a third, but only as long as they get a director as good as James Wan.
