I was talking about this earlier this week and two other thoughts popped up. For once I'd like a mainstream superhero movie where there wasn't some stupid pep talk like the one Mystique gave at the very end. Lines like 'forget what you think you know' or 'are you afraid? you should be' are so stale yet they keep getting thrown into every superhero film. Formula I guess. I also like contemporary music mixed into a scene if it adds to it thematically. Inserting Metallica's Four Horsemen into the scene where Apocalypse gathers his four horsemen is a little tooooo on the nose. I had the feeling that someone on the production Google searched 'four horsemen songs' or 'apocalypse music' and that was the closest they could get. Disagree about the use of Metallica, especially since Kill Em All, the album "The Four Horsemen" is featured on, was released the same year the movie is set. Beynd that, it makes sense for Angel's character to be listening to the song and it makes the scene a lot more interesting.

Is it still that interesting though? Well, it gives the scene a far greater sense of energy and makes it a lot more fun to watch and it also speaks to how Angel is at a low point.

This is out on digital now. I haven't watched it yet because of a crappy Internet connection.

Crazy, but I don't think the direction was the problem with X-Men: Apocalypse. The screenplay was crap.

Maybe would explain some of the inconsistencies in tone.

Maybe would explain some of the inconsistencies in tone. Supposedly, Simon Kinberg took over the movie which is how he ended up directing Dark Phoenix.
