The "cripple" he attacked in the stands was a dude with a slight malady that bought season tickets just to heckle him. His contemporaries thought he wasn't trying to spike them. And almost all of the allegations against Ty Cobb were made up out of whole cloth by am alcoholic ghostwriter on his autobiography as Ty Cobb was in his last weeks of his life.
