It's time to bring this guy up.
In my personal opinion, Elon Musk will go down in history in the same breath as Einstein. He will be directly responsible for saving us, as a species, from oblivion.
I would like to elaborate but someone else has done it infinitely better than I ever could already:

Musk is obsessed with colonising Mars. He has made a space travel start-up in the form of SpaceX, who are creating homemade, American spaceships and technology to send to the space station at a tenth of the usual price. At first, SpaceX were a joke. Upon their inception they had enough money for 3 or 4 launches. Their first 3 all failed...
Their 4th was make or break... and it went perfectly. NASA gave them a billion dollar contract off the back of it.
The USA has been relying on Russian technology, dating back to the 60s, for decades.
SpaceX has changed everything.
^ This is the interior of their proposed dragon capsule for astronauts.
Musk has also been responsible for Tesla, the electric car company. In the last 10 years, they have released the Tesla Roadster, Model S and Model X, all of which have been relatively high end and specifically designed as a lead in to their end game: the Model 3.
The Model 3 is a $35k(ish) car which recently earned $14bn worth of pre-orders in 24 hours.
Ultimately, this guy is a generation ahead of all of us, and we need to listen to him and give him whatever the fuck he needs. But obviously, the car industry hates him, the oil and gas industry hates him, boeing and the other spacecraft companies hate him...
...AND YET...
This man has achieved everything he said he would. We need to make sure that he retains the ability to do what he needs to. Our existence may depend on it.
