Fresh from back to back Best Picture winners at the Academy Awards, Michael Keaton's McDonald's based movie, The Founder, is getting an August release date. variety.com/2016/film/news/michael-keaton-mcdonalds-movie-founder-release-date-1201719750/Originally, the movie was set for November, which would have made it an awards contender, but dumping it in August definitely raises eyebrows. Either the movie sucks or the Weinsteins, who are distributing the film, moved it out of pettiness. Time will tell.

I'm not a fan of the August release date. The movie is gonna get lost in the shuffle.

Don't worry, I'll take the lead for Keaton's Oscar campaign.

Don't worry, I'll take the lead for Keaton's Oscar campaign. I think the last movie to be released in August and win Best Picture was Unforgiven. Dracula and PG Cooper can fact check for me. From what I hear, the script is excellent but there are concerns over the direction. It IS from the same guy who directed The Blind Side. Then again... Sandra Bullock won Best Actress for that movie, so Keaton is in good company regardless of the film's quality.

I can't remember the last time I hated a movie as much as I hated The Blind Side. Hated hated hated that thing.

I love how the trailer uses "From the director of The Blind Side" as if it's something to be proud of.

This is true, in part because any movie that would be ready to go in August could just as easily wait a month and premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. Weinstein has said that he's trying to avoid the December log jam going forward (even though he fucking invented it) and is trying to release his stuff earlier, but that might just be his bullshit excuse for dumping stuff he doesn't think has a chance earlier.
