I have yet to watch a bad Tom Cruise movie; I'm in. You should watch Cocktail. He should. Great movie!

I definitely have not seen that one yet. I'll put it on my list for this weekend.

This doesn't look very good. What killed it for me was the scenes of the mummy destroying London buildings through telekinesis or whatever, where particles of dust and glass fly everywhere. How many times have we seen that in movies over the last few years?

My grade for this movie will depend on the amount of time spent with Tom Cruise running.
Bonus points if he does robot arms.

How many times have we seen that in movies over the last few years? And it looks like they're doing that thing again where the mummy's huge face appears in the cloud/smoke/whatever and devours stuff. I would confirm by watching the trailer again but I don't want to.

FFS, it's a mummy, they come from Egypt, what the hell do you expect of this? The dust thing is a given.

Oh of course they have to use a female mummy, after all, its a Tom Terrific movie Actually, they only decided to use a female mummy because their original design for the new mummy looked almost exactly like Apocalypse from the last X-Men movie. Since they didn't want to appear to be copying X-Men: Apocalypse, especially since it wasn't received very well, they chose to go with a female mummy instead. I decided to watch the classic version of The Mummy the other day. It was one of the few Universal Monsters movies that I somehow never managed to see as a kid. It was okay, but was slowly paced, even by the standards of the time. I'm going to try and find the time to watch the 1999 remake before next weekend.

The original Mummy is just alright, like you said it's pretty slow. It doesn't hit the peaks of James Whale's monster movies but it's still a lot better than the overrated Dracula.

I have a soft spot for the 1999 version, plus the trailers have been getting better and better for me, so I'm actually kind of excited for this one.

The Mummy broke the record for opening day in South Korea. Apparently Tom Cruise is fairly popular there. Review embargo doesn't lift until Thursday.

Domestic projections have gone from $40 mil to about $32 mil. It's shaping up to be huge abroad though.

From the first trailer, this didn't look all too great. Tv spots and new trailers haven't changed my mind. And why did they get a producer to direct?

I read a reciew that used the term "problematic" in the first two sentences and immediately realized the critic's opinion was worthless.

It's a shame that it may not be very good, but not much of a surprise. The Mummy is, after all, supposed to be the start of the 21st Century version of the Universal Monsters. A star vehicle for Tom Cruise isn't exactly compatible with that goal. Cruise's character is just some guy, with no real place in the ongoing story that makes sense. Universal should have saved someone like Cruise for a role like Van Helsing, since his continued participation wouldn't be questioned or seem forced.

25% on rotten tomatoes yikes. Well if they are hoping this will succeed at the box office. I doubt that will happen now.
I think it will make maybe 30 million which isn't good
