What are the issues?
Search for mechanics on Yelp, there may be some decent ones nearby that won't charge you to do an initial inspection (like mine). You can also Google whatever is ailing your car which may give you a general idea what might be happening.

I know a car guy who basically is one of those people who is a tinker wiz on vehicles. He just had allot of bad luck and didnt get too finish schooling to be a mechanic. One side of his family have this yen for cars. Id do the mechanic route if are like me which knows nothing. But if your one of those types who is a can do wanna be fix it dudes then maybe can help if have an idea what the cars problem is.

Before taking it to a mechanic try doing a search online for what the problem is and it might be something you can easily fix yourself for cheap(source: I assisted replacing spark plugs on my SO's car). Depending on what kind of car you have there is probably a forum or subreddit for it, and the people on there could probably give you some idea of where the problem might be coming from.

I sold my 1998 Toyota Tacoma with 275,000 miles six years ago for over 6K. You could bury those in the sand for a thousand years and they'd still run like a top.
