Hey all, wanted some input if possible, as to what flatscreen tvs do you recommend/review the TV you have now.
I am in the market for a max 50in, HD 1080dpi, does not have to be smart, planning on getting a Chromecast for it. Just some feedback around what you guys think are quality makes and models if you know. To be honest the screen quality will be a big improvement from what we have now, so I'm wanting to know things like sound quality and bugs, durability. Samsung and Insignia are interesting me.

Check out Costco if you have one. They have great deals on TVs all the time. I got my 50 inch there. Don't do Best Buy.

After some extensive research into reviews, I recently picked up the 48-inch Samsung UE48H6400 Smart TV on a budget of £500 (approx $750). Knowing how much cheaper electrical goods tend to be over the pond, i wouldn't be surprised if you could find it for sub-$700.
Highly recommended.

When I was researching for a new TV of my own a couple of years ago, I discovered that while Samsung had some of the best TVs, there were still potential problems with them. Samsung was at the time using several different subcontractors to make their screens, some of whom made substandard ones. You had to check a couple of code numbers on the box to figure out if it was any good or not. I don't know if they're still having this issue, but I'd recommend looking into it.
Also, I'd highly recommend a smart TV. The days of broadcast television are rapidly coming to a close. If you intend for this TV to last you for a good long time, you need to get one that is built to handle internet programming. If you have a lot of things such as a bluray player and multiple game consoles, you should also make sure that there are enough connections on the back to handle all your needs.

I have a 26, 42 and 60 inch flatscreen. The two smaller ones are Sharp and the 60 is Samsung. I haven't found any flaws in the three and I recently bought my dad a 60 inch. Due to where I live and how limited I was in choices I got him a Vizio and the only thing that we noticed was the screen needed to be adjusted so it wasn't so dark. He hasn't had any complaints with it.

Thanks for the help, guys. Ended up getting a 50 in Sharp, 1080p, 60 HZ refresh rate, couple of different visual modes as well as 3 HDMI and a USB along with headphone jack and a couple other conncetors. We love it. Also got a Chromecast 2, to make it a smart TV and Netflix too. A bit after Christmas but our best gift!

Does it have motion smoothing issues? Not if you adjust your settings correctly for each input.

I have a 55" 4k Samsung, it's great for Netflix/HBO Go/etc. but since broadcast television hasn't caught up to 4k the TV is rarely used to its fullest potential.
