With all of Creation staying at home, 2020 was the year for Neilson to finally get around to tracking streaming.

With all of Creation staying at home, 2020 was the year for Neilson to finally get around to tracking streaming. Nielsen is flawed but it’s good to have third-party numbers. Otherwise, it’s just Netflix claiming that every new movie or TV show of theirs is the most successful thing ever. Clearly that’s not the case when Ozark (in its 3rd season) and Spenser Confidential (lol, really?) was their top content. It also helps people like Doomsday who get fucked by streaming services refusing to release official numbers. Are we at the end of residuals for everyone in Hollywood? Nielsen stepping in gonna rock the boat for these companies.

Favreau told me I had 30 points on Mandalorian. I thought it sounded great until he started laughing to himself for some reason. Now I understand why.

This is assuming Nielsen's methodology is valid, which it may well not be. It’s 2021. You can ask people to download an app that tracks everything you watch. I feel like a very particularly kind of person is going to be willing to do that, and that's probably going to throw off the numbers a bit, which has kind of always been a problem with Nielsen.

Bull, Roseanne, and Young Sheldon at #5? Come on, America, these are all #1 show material get with it! The original Roseanne was #1 in its 2nd season (1989-90). It infamously dethroned the Cosby Show’s 4-year streak at #1. Roseanne, combined with the Simpsons beating Cosby in the same time slot, started the narrative that Cosby Show “wasn’t relatable”. Cosby’s last season (1991-92) was #18. But 20 million people were still watching the show every week and the finale was watched by 44 million people, making it the 6th most watched finale of all-time. To put it into perspective, 19 million people watched the Game of Thrones finale. So, yeah, Bill Cosby and Donald Trump were once popular.

We have The Apprentice to blame for falsely projecting that he was a successful billionaire and gave him the income and image he needed to become president. Fuck you, Mark Burnett. This is all your fault.
