I'd find a way to get The Running Man on there Absolutely. I'd replace Last Action Hero.

Not sure why but people love last action hero and I think it was his worst film other then Jingle All The Way. During his movie career before he became Govenator.

HOW MANY TIMES DID THE GOLDEN GLOBES DO BETTER THAN THE OSCARS?Tomorrow is the Golden Globes and it got me thinking. How many times did the Golden Globes get it right while the Oscars got it wrong? Let's investigate. 1970 - M*A*S*H vs. PATTON This is a tough one. Patton is an iconic movie about an icon man, but M*A*S*H brought a fresh take to the war genre. I hate to say it, but this was a year where the Golden Globes came across as younger and hipper than the Oscars. 1973 - THE EXORCIST (BEST DRAMA) & AMERICAN GRAFFITI (BEST COMEDY) vs THE STINGI haven't watched The Sting since I was a teenager, so I don't know if it holds up or not. I did enjoy it at the time, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that the Golden Globes made the right choice in BOTH categories. 1978 - MIDNIGHT EXPRESS (BEST DRAMA) & HEAVEN CAN WAIT (BEST COMEDY) vs THE DEER HUNTERI shouldn't be too harsh. Even the Academy Awards regret giving Deer Hunter the Oscar. 1981 - ON GOLDEN POND (BEST DRAMA) & ARTHUR (BEST COMEDY) vs. CHARIOTS OF FIRE1991 - BEAUTY AND THE BEAST vs. THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBSNo one will admit it... but deep down... you know I'm right. 2004 - SIDEWAYS vs MILLION DOLLAR BABYEven Doomsday - EVEN DOOMSDAY - will agree that this was a blunder. 2005 - BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN vs CRASHThe Golden Globes have become a joke in recent years, but even they weren't dumb enough to give Crash the Best Picture award. 2009 - THE HANGOVER vs THE HURT LOCKER2010 - THE SOCIAL NETWORK vs THE KING'S SPEECHThe Golden Globes were criticized in 2010 for giving The Tourist a Best Picture nomination in the comedy category, but even then, they weren't stupid enough to give The King's Speech the top prize. Let that sink in...

They gave Drama to Love Story that year... that invalidates anything else they may have done right. Love Story was a "young people movie", so my argument still stands. In 1970, or '71 to be exact, the Golden Globes came across as the younger alternative to the Oscars. Love Story and M*A*S*H represent two different fractions of the audience. It would be like today giving Best Picture to Birdman and 22 Jump Street. Whoa, now ... The Deer Hunter IS a great movie. No.

More like giving it to The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Fault in Our Stars Also, keep in mind that a lot of this "coolness" is entirely the result of that comedy/drama split. The other nominees for comedy/musical in 1970 were Darling Lili, Diary of a Mad Housewife, Lovers and Other Strangers, and Scrooge... I don't even know what three of those are. Choosing M*A*S*H out of that lot was not difficult or brave, it was just kind of the default.

DraculaI wouldn't compare The Grand Budapest Hotel to M*A*S*H. My Birdman comparison is spot on. Birdman is the type of movie Robert Altman would make if still alive. And those other nominees in the comedy category were nominated for Oscars. Scrooge, starring Albert Finney, received 4 Oscar nominations. Darling Lili, a Blake Edwards/Julie Andrews movie, received 3 Oscar nominations. Diary of a Mad Housewife, although obscure now, received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. Lovers and Other Strangers WON an Oscar and received nominations for Adapted Screenplay and Supporting Actor. M*A*S*H may have been "the default winner" but those other nominees made sense at the time. Likewise, a bunch of movies this year have been nominated that will make no sense 40 years from now. That's an issue that awards shows always have. The people, not critics or the industry, are the ones who decide which movies will be classics. We are all raving about Boyhood and Birdman, but almost no one in the mainstream has seen it. It is entirely possible that 40 years from now those movies are considered "obscure."

The Deer Hunter is a fantastic movie. Only if you pretend the first hour doesn't exist.

The first hour does an incredible job of building character, and ensures that the rest of the film has the emotional punch that it needs.

The first hour does an incredible job of building character, and ensures that the rest of the film has the emotional punch that it needs. Everything before Vietnam is a great cure for insomnia. The Deer Hunter may have been okay for 1978, but once Apocalypse Now and Platoon came into the scene, the movie became irrelevant. No one is gonna sit through 3 hours of nonsense just to watch Robert De Niro win a Russian roulette game.

Whoa, now ... The Deer Hunter IS a great movie. No. Ok, if you really think Beauty and The Beast was better, be our guest. Of the movies nominated that year, both were clearly the best and, at the time, I was even rooting for Beauty And The Beast. Over the years, the more I re-watch both, the more I think Silence Of the Lambs deserved the win it got. Beauty And The Beast definitely did solidify Disney's comeback into animation, that The Little Mermaid set the stage for, with a timeless classic tale, rousing musical numbers, and innovations of computer animation mixed with traditional, and, in my opinion, if it wasn't for Silence Of The Lambs, it definitely should've won Best Picture. I just think Silence Of The Lambs brought out an amazing performance by Sir Anthony Hopkins, had a solid supporting cast, great direction, and an engaging story. Because of those reasons, my opinion gravitated towards Silence over the years. So I do agree with you, but I still stand behind Silence. Also, Silence Of The Lambs helped inspire this amazing scene:
