I've never seen Pretty Woman, but the first Ninja Turtles is indeed a guilty pleasure.

FShuttariAvengers: Age of Ultron has grossed over $300 million domestically. Don't forget that Mad Max will be released on Friday. Pay money to watch it so it doesn't get its ass kicked by Pitch Perfect 2. PG Cooper SnoBorderZero Dracula

I'm still holding to my guess of $25 mil for Mad Max in its opening weekend, good or bad reviews.

SnoBorderZero PG Cooper FShuttariA HISTORY OF MAD MAX AT THE BOX OFFICEThe original Mad Max was released in the United States in 1980. According to IMDb, the movie was only released in 4 cities and Mel Gibson and the other actors were infamously dubbed by Americans to disguise the fact this was an Australian movie. Although there was a proper wide release on May 13, 1983. Whether this was the original Australian version or the American dub, I have no idea. Regardless, most people didn't watch the original Mad Max in theaters. It only grossed $8.7 million. Even for the early 1980's that was considered a flop. To put it into perspective, that's only $26.4 million in today's money. MGM distributed - and to my knowledge - still owns the original Mad Max in the United States. But the two sequels and the new movie were made by Warner Bros. Since the original movie was under the radar and released by a different studio, The Road Warrior was marketed as a standalone movie and released in the United States on May 21, 1982. It grossed $23.6 million which is $65.3 million when adjusted for inflation. It did... okay. It was enough to spawn the PG-13 rated Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Released on July 10, 1985 - a month before Australia - Beyond Thunderdome grossed $36.2 million. That's $82.8 million in today's world, which is respectable when all things are considered.

It's unfortunate because the review the critics are giving are incredible, some even labeling one of the greatest action films EVER. And yet the general public is only interested in their dull and tired comic book films. This movie is too weird, too violent, too original for the masses who prefer to see Avengers and eat McDonalds and listen to Drake on the way home because they're safe choices and don't push anything. The same people who made Grown Ups 2 a massive hit are the same people who would scoff at the idea of seeing Mad Max. These people are called dumbasses.

Mad Max just isn't well-known in the mainstream. Even PG Cooper only saw these movies for the first time last year. I watched the trilogy for the first time in 2003, even though I had watched the Lethal Weapon series countless times since the 1990's. I think people see the ads for Mad Max: Fury Road and think to themselves, "what's a Mad Max?" Or they think to themselves, "I haven't seen the other movies. Should I watch this one first?" Regardless, the movie is tracking to open with $40 million. That's good all things considered.

To be fair, the films have been on my radar for a long time. The problem is I couldn't find the first one until TCM showed it. Yeah. These movies don't air on television as much as they should. Even now with the new movie, they're never on. I remember in the 90's Thunderdome aired all the time on TNT, but I was reluctant to watch it because I hadn't seen the other two. I don't know what happened in 2003 but all three movies were on television every month. I saw them. My friends saw them. The Internet saw them. They were popular. The stars literally aligned for George Miller and Mel Gibson to make Fury Road but shit happened and Gibson moved on to The Passion of the Christ. That's what's so exciting about Fury Road getting great reviews. Some of us have been waiting 12 years for this movie.

I'll be the first to say Mad Max isn't a very good movie. Only at the end does it get kinda cool, it's still pretty tame. Almost the entire franchise is built on the climax to the Road Warrior although that whole movie is pretty sweet for the most part. Fury Road has the not overly difficult task of being the best of the Mad Max films but it sounds like it's that and then some.

I don't think anyone has to be too familiar with the films to get excited, I mean just look at the visuals in the trailers, they're astounding. This movie is made for 3D, you would think people would be elated to go see it.

The Road Warrior on the other hand is awesome the whole way through and, fun as Fury Road looks, I doubt it'll top the classic.
