Here lies clickbait nonsense. The "record" appears to only be counting ticket sales on that one vendor and that vendor is relatively new and is just coming into its own this year. Also I've heard their servers held up better when the rush was on that first morning tickets were on sale. Fandango has said that endgame has sold more than 5x more pre sale tickets so far than infinity war.

Hellboy opened at #3 with $12 million. It cost $50 million to make so it'll..... still flop. Even though the Avengers is still about two weeks away, Hellboy won't have enough time to recoup its loses. Had it opened at #1 it could have maybe broken even but that #3 spot is a death sentence.
Shazam is #1 again but its underperforming. It's at $94 million after two weeks of release. Its budget is $100 million but that doesn't take into account marketing costs. Shazam will likely break even once it's all said and done and start making a profit on home media. Not a home run like Wonder Woman and Aquaman.
Opening next weekend is La Llorona, the latest from the Conjuring series. It's something to watch before the Avengers comes out. Linda Cardellini stars in it.

Interesting how Hellboy 2 mostly failed because it came out the week before The Dark Knight so for the reboot they more or less went ahead and made the same mistake and put it out right between Shazam and Avengers.

The fact that the reboot is tanking critically and financially the weekend of Ron Perlman's birthday does bring me some measure of joy.

The new Alamo Drafthouse that's within reasonable driving distance for me is finally opening Thursday, and put tickets up for sale this past Wednesday afternoon. Within twenty-four hours, every showing for opening night of Endgame was sold out. After doing some looking around, it looks as though every theater in town is either sold out for this Thursday, or only has terrible seats left (and those will probably be gone by showtime). I won't be surprised if this monster manages a $300 million domestic opening weekend, despite the three hour running time.
In other comics2film news, Captain Marvel broke the $400 million domestic mark this week. Shazam! continues to flounder in the foreign and domestic market with only $322.8 million worldwide, and will be pretty much buried after this Thursday evening. Hellboy was essentially dead on arrival, and Thursday is going to hammer the nails in it's coffin.

They should have done a soft opening this weekend to workout the kinks.

They should have done a soft opening this weekend to workout the kinks. It is a soft opening, actually. All showings for the next couple of weeks are listed as Staff Training Days. While the audience can expect food service to go awry from time to time, all food served during training is 25% off. Opening night also only has one showing per screen. There will also be experienced staff borrowed from other Alamo locations across the metroplex to serve as a training cadre. I'm sure they would have liked to have the soft opening start this past weekend, but that simply wasn't possible. They're really rushing things just to get open on Thursday.

$300 million opening weekend. Calling it now. The actual retail price of Avengers: Endgame is... We’re looking at $350 million. The record is $257 million, set by Infinity War last year. Force Awakens was $247 million.

The weekend estimate for Avengers: Endgame is indeed a record-breaking $350 million domestically. Worldwide, the film has grossed $1.2 BILLION. Insane. In China alone the movie has made $217.4 million. The question now is, will Endgame continue to break records or did everyone just rush to watch it on opening weekend? Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the current domestic champ at $936 million. Worldwide belongs to Avatar with $2.7 Billion. Doomsday hates both those movies so I suggest you become one of those lunatics that goes to watch a movie a hundred times. Opening next weekend are a trio of films sure to flop: Dennis Quaid in The Intruder, Seth Rogen’s The Longshot and the animated Ugly Dolls. Why do those studios hate making money?

And Captain Marvel surged back to number 2 lol. Must have been a lot of people seeing it because Endgame was sold out.

I sold many (not a lot) to Marvel because they hadn't seen it yet and were seeing it before going to Endgame.

My theater wasn't even screening Captain Marvel. Aside from Endgame, they were showing Shazam!, Dumbo and Breakthrough. I did expect Captain Marvel to get a bump, but not one that would put it at #2.
