Doomsday Dracula SnoBorderZero @dukeleto FShuttariYou can't stop Jurassic World. For the 4th weekend in a row, it has been the #1 movie in North America. So far, it has grossed $558 million domestically. Inside Out is also doing really well. After 3 weeks in theaters it's nearing $250 million domestically. As for the two new movies that opened on Wednesday, Terminator Genisys grossed $44 million and Magic Mike XXL grossed $26.6 million. Opening on Friday is The Minions, which should dethrone Jurassic World and Inside Out, The Gallows, and Self/Less.

If JW does hold on and win the weekend Inside Out will have the distinction of being the highest grossing movie to never top a weekend.

By the way, as expected, Terminator Genisys did a lot better overseas. It grossed $85.5 million. The Minions are also kicking ass. Even though the movie doesn't open in North America till Friday, it has already grossed $124.2 million internationally.

Terminator did well overseas, but wow did it bomb over here, worse than I even imagined. I was doing 4th of July stuff all weekend, but I'll get to Terminator sometime this week. It's playing at the theater my friend is a manager of, so a free ticket to it might make it more enjoyable. Maybe.

THIS WEEK IN BOX OFFICE HISTORY 10 years ago, Fox released their first attempt at a Fantastic Four movie. It was a box office success. It opened at #1 with $56 million. Adjusted for inflation, that's $71 million, which is what people are expecting Ant-Man to gross in its debut weekend. Wrap your head around that, Wyldstaar . 15 years ago, the Wayans Bros scored a rare box office triumph with Scary Movie. Released as the Scream clones were beginning to dry up, it opened at #1 with $42.3 million. That's $63.7 million in today's money. Scary Movie had long legs and ended up becoming the 9th highest grossing film of 2000 with $157 million - or $236.5 million when adjusted. It also spawned a franchise that outlasted its welcome a long time ago. Although Doomsday has found steady work writing the endless sequels. 20 years ago, only computer geeks like @dukeleto used the Internet. The tides were turning. There's no question about it. But it was still the EARLY days for the mainstream. That's why a perverted movie like Species managed to become a moderate success and spawn sequels. It opened at #2, behind Apollo 13, with $17.1 million. In total, it grossed $60 million which was decent for the time. That's $112 million in today's cash. Heck, that would be considered a HUGE success today. I can't think of a current day softcore porno that grossed that much in theaters. I'm sure there's an obvious modern day comparison that I'm overlooking at 10am but I'll let thebtskink take care of that for me. Happy 25th anniversary to Die Hard 2, everyone's favorite TBS movie. Bruce Willis' first return to his signature role was a box office victory. It was the 8th highest grossing film of 1990 with a 2015 equivalent of $225.6 million. Happy 30th anniversary to Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, the favorite Mad Max movie for Dracula , PG Cooper and SnoBorderZero . It opened at #2, behind Back to the Future, and went on to gross a current day equivalent of $82.8 million. Also celebrating this weeknd are Jibbs' childhood favorite, Explorers, and Kevin Costner's Silverado.

While the people of San Diego enjoyed Comic-Con, the rest of the nation enjoyed the Minions. The Minions opened at #1 this weekend with $115.2 million. Jurassic World was #2 with $18.1 million and a new domestic total of $590.6 million. Jibbs Doomsday PG Cooper SnoBorderZero FShuttari And at #3 is Inside Out with $17.1 million. It should reach $300 million domestically by the end of the month. The Gallows and Self/Less flopped. Opening on Friday is ANT-MAN and Judd Apatow's Trainwreck. And in case you missed it, the Comic-Con sizzle reel for the movie that will rival Jurassic World this year, Star Wars: The Force Awakens:

THIS WEEK IN BOX OFFICE HISTORY
10 years ago, the two movies that would dominate the remainder of the summer were released. On one corner you had Tim Burton's remake of Willy Wonka. Despite some criticism from fans of the original, it did well with family audiences and became the 7th highest grossing film of 2005 with a modern day equivalent of $261.5 million. On the other corner you had the latest raunchy R-rated comedy from members of the "frat pack", Wedding Crashers. The Owen Wilson & Vince Vaughn cult classic had remarkable legs and slightly beat Willy Wonka to become the 6th biggest moneymaker of the year with a current day equivalent of $265 million.
Tomorrow is the 15th anniversary of X-Men. Considering how many reboots there's been in recent years, it's amazing that this series is still marching along. The movie opened at #1 with $54.4 million, which is $82 million in today's cash. X-Men went on to rank 8th for 2000.
Happy 25th anniversary to Ghost, the 2nd biggest movie of 1990.

Ant-Man was #1 this weekend with $58 million. WyldstaarThat's about what they were expecting on the domestic front. Most of the information regarding foreign ticket sales isn't in yet, but it's going to be a big number once the final figures are out. I really didn't expect Marvel Studios to give Ant-Man the same sort of budget they give the other solo films, but they went for it. While the film isn't exactly setting the box office on fire, it will clear a profit. The competition arriving next weekend isn't particularly stiff, so the drop won't be too severe I suspect.

THIS WEEK IN BOX OFFICE HISTORY
20 years ago, Clueless was released, and the controversial film, Kids, opened in a handful of theaters. Both did okay at the box office but have had a great life on television and home video.
25 years ago, Steven Spielberg's Arachnophobia made its debut and Charlie Sheen tried to be an action star in Navy Seals. Also, Marlon Brando reprised his role as The Godfather in The Freshman. Most people under 30 don't know these movies exist.
