I would hope that Ragnarok is of more consequence than just an excuse to bring the Guardians into contact with the Avengers. Thor: Dark World was meaningless. Why would this be any different? It's certainly a fair question, because you're absolutely correct about The Dark World being pointless. I would say the answer is that Marvel Studios has chosen to react to how poorly the first two Thor movies are generally thought of by allowing the director of Thor: Ragnarok to go wild and do something new and different. How that ultimately turns out remains to be seen, but the trailers seem to indicate that we're not getting another blandly generic Thor movie. The descriptions of the footage shown at SDCC that are not part of the trailer sound great. They seem to be holding nothing back. The days of trying to keep everything grounded in reality are over, and now they're just going for it.

In the overall Marvel story, this is just here to get Thor from point A to point B. That's why it's being allowed to be different. They don't have to worry about continuity issues. In Star Trek term, it's a bottle episode.

The part where I said, "It's certainly a fair question, because you're absolutely correct about The Dark World being pointless." should have made that obvious.

This movie will have far greater significance in the overall "Marvel story" than GOTG 2 or Homecoming did. Granted, that's not saying much. It's going to be the sole movie that immediately sets up Infinity War, with likely Hela playing a big part. Just speculation, mind you, but it feels obvious to me that the Planet Hulk aspect is going to be the side-story, albeit fun bit of the movie, even if it takes up a sizable portion of the middle. The core story to the overall picture is going to be that of Ragnarok and Hela (and possibly Strange?).

People are saying Doctor Strange has one scene in the movie, similar to Spider-Man in Civil War, that's why he's not in any of the promotional material. They already teased his involvement in the Doctor Strange movie, so that's all we're getting unless they randomly throw him in a trailer or TV spot right before the movie comes out in November.

Alright who is the woman on team thor? Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson. She was the black woman from corporate in Westworld.

Just out on Digital
There were too many jokes peppered throughout the first part of the movie, and I became very distracted.
It got pretty good for the most part half way through. They needed a different music writer though. It was a bit off to me.
7/10
