I went to an AMC in Kansas a while back. They had a 'buffet' style concession stand where they had shelves of popcorn, candy, soda fountain etc. You grabbed what you wanted, walked it up to the cashier and paid there, nobody was serving you anything and the only people there were the ones taking your money. That hasn't hit California yet. I bet you spent a hundred bucks. |

Some of our theaters are like that now, except they still have someone serving the popcorn, I imagine for freshness. It's nice, because it moves the lines a lot faster. Someone getting just a drink doesn't have to wait around forever while someone in front of them is ordering practically full meals for six people and doesn't yet know what they all want.

someone in front of them is ordering practically full meals for six people I hate those people. There's a reason why popcorn, hot dog and candy are tradition movie theater food. You can eat them without the aid of a table. But there will always be those fat asses ordering burgers and pizza and chicken tenders and cheese sticks and fries and struggling to eat it and making noises and messes. |

I think McDonald's wants to transition into a restaurant/drive-thru hybrid. While their drive-thru is still treated as fast food, their eat-in has gotten ridiculous with the servers. It took 15 minutes for the food to arrive. They compensate by giving you the food "fresh", probably "fresher" than what the drive thru is getting, but if I'm gonna invest this much time I'd rather go to Five Guys. Not because I'm anti-McDonald's and think the food is garbage. I just don't wanna spend an hour surrounded by children running and screaming. If McDonald's wants to become more upscale they gotta distance themselves from their family image.

I went to McDonald's today and they got rid of the cashiers. You have to order your food through a touchscreen. Once this goes mainstream I wonder how many people will lose their jobs. When Obama became President, right after the economy collapsed, McDonald's made a huge gesture by hiring a shitload of people. People can't live on minimum wage but at least it was something. Now Trump is on the horizon and McDonald's pulls this shit? I'm not a hippy. I'm not gonna boycott McDonald's. I know this is the future. But it's also something McDonald's didn't need to do. They're rich enough. there was only the touchscreen option Where the registers used to be is now a take-out counter. There was like... 5 or 6 people on staff. The drive-thru people, the food assembler, the take-out person and the server. lol. McDonald’s went hardcore on this. They don’t even have a takeout counter anymore. I guess too many people were abusing it to avoid using the touchscreens. I’m sitting here and everyone walking over to the counter is getting directed to the touchscreen by the drive-thru person. The server just takes the bags to them. It’s not just eat-in people getting served. |
