QUICK THOUGHTS ABOUT
X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST
X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST
It's a GOOD movie but let's not exaggerate. X-Men, X2, and X-Men: First Class are better movies. And X-Men: The Last Stand, love it or hate it, had a more important story to tell.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is simply a course correction. The series has had too many mistakes and too many continuity issues, so they needed a movie to fix things without rebooting the franchise. This film does its job VERY WELL and I'm looking forward to future X-Men adventures, but this movie will always just be "a fixer" instead of a proper X-Men movie.
The cast of First Class are excellent and make the actors from the original cast look bad EXCEPT Hugh Jackman. People b---h and moan about him being over-used but there's a reason for that, he's great as Wolverine and he works very well with every actor. OG's. First Class. Future Casts. Whatever. Hugh Jackman always holds his own.
I love the scenes that take place in the future. They were VERY cool. However, since they were so artificial while the scenes in the past were so real, they didn't blend well together.
I continue to enjoy Michael Fassbender as Magneto but Bryan Singer made him too simplistic as a villain. Matthew Vaughn's Magneto is WAY better cause he was complex and actually made strong arguments.
It was awesome to hear John Ottman's X-Men theme again.
MORE THOUGHTS
The opening action scene was excellent. If this movie doesn't get Academy Award nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Production Design, I'm gonna be pissed.
Hugh Jackman's Butt
This was James McAvoy's movie. Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender and Tom Cruise Jr. had their moments but James McAvoy was the actor who truly shined.
Did they ever SAY Quicksilver? And good luck topping this, Joss Whedon and Aaron Johnson.
It's a running joke in the X-Men series that Wolverine can't fight Magneto because of his metal. So, I was very disappointed that they didn't FINALLY have a fair fight.
Apparently, X-Men: Apocalypse will star the cast from First Class, which is great, but considering the ending this movie gave us, people are gonna demand the OG's to return. And what exactly is that 3rd Wolverine movie gonna be about? Are they gonna be exploring the "Mystique twist"? I doubt Jennifer Lawrence is gonna do back-to-back movies as Mystique. Maybe they'll bring back Rebecca. We'll see.
