Tom Hanks, Idris Elba, Tormund from Game of Thrones... you have to think that this thing has been way more widespread than we thought for a while now.

Not really. Tarantino wanted to do a 1960s-set Casino Royale. That was too radical for the producers.

I said that slighlty in jest, knowing that it was probably more BS than anything. Still cool to hear Brosnan talking about it.

Octopussy is the ultimate try-hard Bond movie. I guess competition from Never Say Never Again forced them to “step up their game.” I’ve complained in the past that the movie is too long, but it isn’t as simple as that. This movie goes from a train fight to a car chase to a potential circus bombing to a palace battle to an aerial climax with no regard whatsoever towards tone, pacing, tension and story-character beats. The filmmakers figured if they threw enough action scenes at the audience they wouldn’t notice the movie isn’t that good. And then SnoBorderZero has the balls to say Octopussy is better than Never Say Never Again and View to a Kill. I’d argue Octopussy is the weakest of the 80’s Bond movies... even though it does have the best action scenes. That’s what makes it tragic. They wasted such great action scenes on a super mediocre movie.

Octopussy isn't good, but yes it's better than Never Say Never Again and A View to a Kill.
Not like that's a grand achievement. I have both Never Say Never Again and A View to a Kill in the bottom five Bond films.

And A View to a Kill has Christopher Walken in it, which trumps anything in Octopussy.
Including the clown outfit and Tarzan yell, believe it or not.

When I saw Spectre for the first time, I was struck by just how incredibly awful the opening credits theme by Sam Smith was. I couldn't imagine how they couldn't find anything better, especially since I knew he wasn't their first choice from articles I'd seen ahead of time. Apparently, Spectre was destined to have the worst opening theme of any 007 film, regardless of who was given the task.
This was the first attempt at a 007 theme by Radiohead, which was rejected because it was an unreleased song (at the time) they'd written years beforehand, so it wouldn't qualify for an Oscar for Best Original Score.
The second attempt by Radiohead was terrible as well, and apparently rejected for being "too melancholy". As if Radiohead produces anything that isn't melancholy.

I actually really like that second Radiohead song. Certainly better than Sam Smith's piece.
