Solo: A Star Wars Story

Disney CEO Bob Iger addressed the future of the Star Wars franchise during a talk with the press (and investors) in Santa Monica, revealing the following details about the Han Solo movie in the process (via reporter Ben Fritz):

"Han Solo movie will follow him from age 18 through 24 and show him finding the Falcon, meeting Chewbacca, and getting his name."

The character aging from 18 to 24 of course indicates that the events of the movie take place over a six year period. It’s known that Han acquired his ship, the Millennium Falcon, from Lando Calrissian in a card game was spoken about in The Empire Strikes Back – though now, it looks like all the details of that event will be revealed. This also sheds some light on what Donald Glover – who is taking over the role of Lando from Billy Dee Williams – will be doing in the Han Solo film.

As for meeting Chewbacca, that’s probably one of the stories fans have been clamoring for the most. The two characters have hardly ever been separated throughout four films thus far, until the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens at least. Their meeting was detailed in the no-longer-canon novel The Hutt Gambit in the past, and it is unknown at this time whether the film will follow the same story or create a new one.

Han’s name is certainly interesting, as most fans probably had no idea that it was ever changed. But after all, if the movie starts with him at 18 and shows him acquiring the moniker of Han Solo, he must have been called something else during his childhood.

There is still nearly a two year wait until the Untitled Han Solo Movie is released in theaters, so who knows what further information will find its way out into the world before than.
