Yeah all of that was really tacky and poorly executed. It honestly just created more plot holes and pointless meanderings that took away from the movie. I mean, who cares about Kyle Reese, ever? Even when he was cool in "The Terminator", nobody cared about him. This movie made a huge mistake spending so much time on him and Sarah Connor, none of their interactions worked.

The saying goes, "Don't beat a dead horse." But they never said anything about rebooting the horse! A-ha!
I get why so many people would hate this movie, and I myself didn't exactly go in with the highest expectations thanks to Terminator: Salvation, but lo and behold, I actually ended up liking Terminator: Genisys (or, as I like to pronounce it, Terminator: Gen-ny-sus).
Contrary to the majority, I thought this film's "new timeline" angle really gave it some much-needed invigoration and life -- not to the point where it was a particularly great movie -- but enough where it got me invested enough in everything to keep me interested throughout. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I never held this franchise in really high esteem to begin with, but I thought the filmmakers did a good job of keeping things fresh by taking a lot of what we know about the story and turning it on its head. Also, even with a PG-13 rating, I found the action fairly entertaining and I also really enjoyed Schwarzenegger's now natural stoicism, along with his one-liners. I also found Jason Clarke to be pretty good, although one of the film's weaknesses is putting actors like Jai Courtney (WHY does Hollywood insist on shoving this guy down our throats?) and Emilia Clarke at the center of things, when they're easily the weak links in the cast.
Maybe it was just my middling expectations, but I can say with confidence that I walked away enjoying Terminator: Genisys.

Jason Clarke was pretty bland I thought. Also, they one made it fresh in a very, very superficial way. but really, its the same stuff going on.

I thought he was pretty good, just didn't have much to work with and the "brilliant" idea by the producers to completely spoil in the trailers that he's the bad guy sucked the air out of everything almost instantly. But yeah, the writers basically reduced John Connor to corny rah-rah banter and "join the dark side!" dialogue that got old fast.
On a side note, I'm glad everyone is tired of Jai Courtney. Like Phantom said, why do they keep insisting on casting him? No one wants him!

I'm with Sno on Jason Clarke -- it's more that I found he did the best with what he was given and out of the main cast who weren't Arnold Schwarzenegger, he was the most fun to watch. Also, though, I still appreciated that the writers TRIED something different with the plot this time around, which is more than can be said for Salvation.

Yeah, Salvation will always be the stepchild of the series. Like Halloween III that didn't have Michael Myers, it's the installment everyone tries to forget was made.

To be fair, this is an extremely easy movie to pick on. It has a decent first 20 minutes and then the rest is completely terrible.

"Stop trying to make Jai Courtney happen. It's not happening." That was my favorite part of the whole vid. He has one major movie left, The Suicide Squad.

"Stop trying to make Jai Courtney happen. It's not happening." I'm proud that these forums have been hating on him since A Good Day to Die Hard. So proud.

Yeah, Salvation is a stupid movie, but at least once Bale gets going in Skynet it's fairly fun and entertaining. This one commits the movie sin I hate the most: being a really fucking stupid movie with gaping plot and logic holes that thinks it's really smart. I think this one is definitely the worst of the series.

I've read a few audience reviews of Dark Fate. It does not sound good.
