I'll keep this short and to the point.
One good thing about this movie was, the trailers did not give away anything. In fact they mislead you into thinking this is a movie that takes place in Tomorrowland. Which is not the case, majority of the film follows these characters, the 2 girls and George Clooney's character of piecing together this mystery and the plot where it leads to Tomorrowland.
I for one was in the right mood for an adventure film and this journey these characters go on to get to Tomorrowland. It's filmed beautifully the sets, story, and characters all worked for me. I was on the ride through the entire film.
Also I'm a huge fan of Brad Bird, Iron Giant, Incredibles, and Ghost Protocol are all fine films, so when I started reading the reviews I was a little sad this was not going to be hold of well. But the truth is majority of the film holds up very strong.
Except for the last part of the film, when they finally get to Tomorrowland it just becomes a typical storyline. We have a sinister villain doing evil things and needs to be stopped, Also the message they give near the end of the film is repetitive and has been heard in so many other films (also the message holds up stronger in those films) that it feels like they are really just hammering you with it in the end.
But even with all the flaws at the end, I can't quite fault the movie. I really enjoyed the ride, it was funny and I really liked the characters. And the movie just looks gorgeous thanks to Brad Bird.
8.5/10

I absolutely loved every scene with Athena and the main gal. Clooney was good in this, but his younger self overshadowed him. I thought this was a highly imaginative and fun film, but the ending devolved into "Wall-E"/"Watchmen" territory and got overly-preachy. That said, the ride was still really spectacular. The NASA break-in scenes, the "It's a Small World" ride that segues into something else, the house attack scene, the sci-fi shop and ensuing road trip, the Eiffel Tower - all really great scenes. I was surprised a lot by this.
7.5/10 (Really good movie)

Im baffled how Picture Perfect 2 out did Mad Max Fury Road last weekend. Anna Kendrick alone has 4.18 million followers on Twitter (and Instagram since she cross-posts), and has been marketing the hell out of this movie. The first one was also super good, so there's your answer.

I will say I could see people having a problem with one thing - the whole movie points towards a problem, and we don't find out what that problem is until the final act of the film - when the characters finally make it to Tomorrowland, and then the problem is wrapped up neatly. It didn't bother me personally, I've seen this happen in other movies before where stuff is going wrong, and the mystery of the villain's scheme and motive for said scheme is revealed near the end. This film had enough going for it that it didn't need to make the end scheme the driving struggle of the protagonists.
Still, I could see folks being put off that the majority of Tomorrowland doesn't actually take place in Tomorrowland, and the movie takes its time getting us there.

I guess I'm more of a "It's the journey, not the destination" type of guy... so that worked for me.

The reason some movies get steam rolled is because summer being spring too is overloaded with movies so you risk movies underperforming. In Disneys case them owning Marvel and Star Wars may make the disney brand films suffer. Just cant expect Avengers and Star Wars the same year and your Disney brand movies to take a hit.

Awe I can get family movies out doing and action flick because family type movies and comedies can reach more people. Its just that today there is just too many bigger movies falling flat on there faces.Particularly when a studio decides to redo or make a sequel to an 80s popular movie. Who knew the popular thing would still be the teen bop genra alot like to Bring It on.

Yeah, they're all sitting around ribbing each other good that they keep casting 20 year olds as teens, those crazy producers!

It's safe to say I wasn't alone in having a great deal of interest in Tomorrowland based on the trailers and other pieces of marketing leading up to it. The concept was pretty cool and you had Brad Bird directing, so the potential was there. Was that potential fully realized? Well...kind of. First off all, the marketing makes this look like a fast-paced sci-fi action adventure movie, but it's really not. I saw this with my Mom, and the best way to describe this movie is to use her words: "It felt like an old-school Disney movie, like the original Witch Mountains." I can certainly see her point there, but also, to me, it tonally felt like a movie Spielberg could've directed in the late 70's/early 80's.
So does that style work? Yeah. Brad Bird and co-screenwriter Damon Lindelof (bear with me) have that approach pretty down-pat, which makes the movie a little bit more interesting. It might be a little more slower-paced than expected, but that in turn allows the characters to actually develop and for there to be a certain sense of mystery and excitement/wonder to all of the sci-fi elements...until the movie kind of betrays that with an action-heavy Third Act that mostly feels perfunctory. But the rest of the time, Tomorrowland works pretty well. Britt Robertson is a fun, charming lead and George Clooney is entertainingly gruff. Each of them bring a good amount of personality to the movie. Brad Bird continues his solid show of directing; he stages more good action scenes, maybe not as goos as the ones in Mission: Impossible 4, but still entertaining. I especially liked how he employed a single tracking shot for Casey's (Robertson) first time in Tomorrowland. On a technical level, Tomorrowland is pretty great.
But a few things aren't quite as strong, such as the Third Act and what feels like a tacked-on "important message/commentary", not to mention Hugh Laurie's under-utilized character, which ties back in with my Third Act criticism. The script also has its times where it feels like it's going for more typical aspects than trying something more fresh. So, it's kind of a hodge-podge.
In the end, though, I can't deny I had a good time with Tomorrowland, but it's not as innovative as it aspires to be.

Just a thought...

Went ahead and gave this a shot this weekend, will probably get around to writing a review eventually. Long story short, it seemed like a noble enough effort but the way subtext quickly became text was clunky to say the least. Also, given the film's outlook I find it more than a little funny that it's currently being trounced in the culture and at the box office by a movie about a post-apocalyptic wasteland...
