He's probably right, people would just write them off as crusty white people who complain about everything and talk shit about anyone who isn't like them. Curb worked because it's just Larry David being an ass in our overly politically correct society of today, I don't think Seinfeld would've translated as well which is really stupid. I mean, According to Jim had like 8 or 9 seasons, I don't have a ton of faith in people's sitcom preferences.

People would just write them off as crusty white people who complain about everything and talk shit about anyone who isn't like them. Actually... that's what Jerry Seinfeld meant by "old school" annoying. Society was more "civilized" in the 1990's. Seinfeld stood out because the characters WERE assholes. But now... social media has turned everyone into an asshole. Everyone has a voice... or they think they do. Complaining and talking shit is what people do all day. So there's no room for Seinfeld to function because they have nothing to play-off against. Curb works because Larry David started the trend of real life people playing a fictional version of themselves. It has nothing to do with Larry being a jerk. He has to do with distorting reality.

That's a good point, people have always been assholes but now with social media they have a platform to be a huge asshole on and can hide behind a computer screen.
I agree on Curb, I understand it's a mockumentary, but think of each scenario Larry finds himself in. He's always complaining or doing politically incorrect things (dating a girl in a wheelchair for people to empathize for him and other perks for example) and is pretty unashamed in it all. Yes, people today are total assholes on the internet and say awful things, but Larry is doing it in person and amongst the Hollywood elite which makes it even more outrageous and hilarious. Anyone can be a douche over the internet, it takes a special kind of person to consistently do it in person.

Curb is essentially the closest thing we have to a George Costanza spin-off.

Yeah it's awesome, I love when they're making the Seinfeld reunion and Jason Alexander is going on about what a loser and jerk that George is and he's just standing there like "you fucker, that's about me" hahaha!

Jibbs Doomsday thebtskink SnoBorderZeroJason Alexander reveals why Susan was killed off on Seinfeld mashable.com/2015/06/03/susan-seinfeld-deathTurns out it wasn't just bad wedding invitations that killed Susan Ross. In fact, it was the actress' complete lack of comedic chemistry with the Seinfeld cast that led to the death of George Costanza's fiancé. Jason Alexander revealed the details surrounding Susan's untimely demise during a visit to the Howard Stern Show on Wednesday. When Stern steered the topic toward rumors that Alexander couldn't stand actress Heidi Swedberg, the actor was quick to clarify: "She's a terrific girl...I couldn't figure out how to play off of her." Alexander explained that though he often had trouble finding the right comedic tone with Swedberg, his cast mates were hard pressed to believe him. It wasn't until Jerry Seinfeld and Julia Louis-Dreyfus performed extensive material with Swedberg in Season 7 that they took Alexander's concerns seriously. "Julia actually said, 'I know, don't you want to just kill her?,'" Alexander said, which he says gave show runner Larry David the perfect plot line for his then-undecided season finale. Cut to the end of Season 7 and poor Susan dies after licking poison envelope glue. Harsh? Maybe, but don't worry too much about Swedberg — she's living the dream life of an accomplished ukulele teacher.

Yeah I read this a few days ago, pretty funny actually. Susan was kinda hot. I totally would have banged her and watched Mad About You afterwards.

She was definitely the best George could do. Other than Marissa Tomei of course.

There is nothing worse than a PC college student set on defending their right to not be offended, or to defend others rights to not be offended whether those others want to be defended or not.

Didn't Seinfeld have like 19 total black characters in the full run of the show?
Even if he has a point, which in his one example I heard, he does not... Is he really the one to teach this lesson?

Do all big comics do college towns? That sounds like the traveling comic, not the millionaires. And ticket price has to be somewhat of a problem. Louis CK was 60 bucks last time I saw him in Pittsburgh.

Do all big comics do college towns? Last year Bill Maher was scheduled at a college and controversy broke out at the school when his latest opinions about Muslims were revealed. The students petitioned to have his appearance cancelled.

Yeah, you can tell pretty easily what season you're in for exactly the reasons you described. As the show went on they could try new things and let the secondary characters shine or even be the catalyst of the plot (like the Soup Nazi) whereas in the beginning it's pretty much just the 4 of them and plotlines like forgetting where they parked or something along those lines.
