My local (if an hour away can be construed as local) Alamo Drafthouse put a new arcade cabinet in their lobby beside the Galaga and TMNT games that were already there this week. The game? A real-life version of Starfighter from The Last Starfighter (1984)! Somebody went all-out with this thing, too. It is exactly like the game in the movie. It's hard as hell to play, due to the fact that enemies can come at you from any angle in space.
It's there as part of their ramp-up to Ready Player One, in which they're playing a series of films selected by Ernest Cline which inspired the film version. This includes The Last Starfighter, which seems to be a favorite of his, since it's the primary basis of his second novel- Armada.

While reading Armada, The Last Starfighter was literally the first thing I thought of.

It’s a movie that had a built-in fanbase that got more and more turned off with each preview that was released.

I peered into the vastness and saw nothing. Felt nothing.

Probably should give it a little more time. It only had like 10 reviews when you posted that. It's now at 75%, but with only 16 reviews, that doesn't mean much.
